1976 Volkswagen Beetle Survivor with 19k miles

Chunky. That’s what I think of when looking at this car. Among the newest Beetles available state-side, the ’76 featured here has led a life free from the neglect and abuse so many of these air-cooled Bugs suffered from. Much like today’s economy cars, they weren’t collectors’ items or even desired for anything more than performing as basic transportation. That’s why a museum-quality piece like this brown Beetle is a charming find, further augmented by an oh-so-70s houndstooth interior that I get dizzy just looking at. The paint color is definitely period correct – if only the seats were a nice shade of green to match! A car like the Beetle is too significant to ignore, and the ’76 was among the more civilized models, with air conditioning and other appointments that stand in stark contrast to its sparsely-equipped forebears.

So, how high will this one go? Not sure. The vintage VW market is a funny one, with Buses and truly old-school Beetles fetching big bucks in all manner of conditions. This 1976 Beetle would be a nice complement to a similar-era 2002, as they both featured color shades of the 70s and bumpers that could break your knees (and hopefully, your impact).

Pretty neat find. I would have expected the underside to be a bit cleaner with only 19K miles, but everything seems to be in place. Curious to see how high this goes on nostalgia alone.
