1979 Mercedes-Benz 240D

When I consider the slew of new cars for 2016, my mind keeps circling around one question: just how long could you keep one of these machines on the road? My guess is not for long, with the plethora of electronic devices that are bound to go wrong as time marches on. In this era of leasing, it seems that new cars are becoming throwaway items, cast off for those wanting the newest and shiniest thing. This 1979 Mercedes-Benz 240D for sale in California is the exact opposite of the disposable vehicle. These cars were built to last and over three decades on still make for a sensible daily driver.

You are viewing probably the nicest example of a 1979 240 Diesel in the world. This 2 owner California car is 100% rust free and Original in every way having only traveled 61,946 miles. Mercedes got it right in the 70’s and 80’s they made cars that are referred to as art work. You clearly could see the quality of cars they built and also how they were painted. Today this car is that piece of art that only one person will be able to own and call it their own. The color of this car is called Caledonia Green Its very rare and stunning the paint is All original except for the trunk lid. It has a small scratch and I had to have it fixed to make the car 100% show quality. It looks perfect and matches excellent. The oyster MB text interior is pristine. I mean as good as it was in 1979. The seats are perfect and firm, the door panels are as well no rippling etc. The dash is pristine in every way with not one single crack also the wood along the dash is perfect. The headliner is like new as you can see in the pics. There really isn’t much I can say other then this is the nicest example of a 240 D I ever seen. The climate control switches from heat to Ice Cold Ac. There isn’t much frills in the car which for the true enthusiast it’s ok. The cruise control works perfect which is rare in it’s self. Also the original Becker radio with cassette works perfect as does the power antenna.

When you start the car she idles like a watch and driving the car is as good as they get. Its very tight and has the power a low mileage 240 D should have. The transmission shifts flawless as well. Ok now for the mechanicals. You will see a engine compartment that is highly detailed and you can eat off it. I wanted to make it the best of the best and I think someone will appreciate all my work and time. I removed the valve cover and had it polished, I also had the Valves Adjusted and installed a new gasket when I put it back on. I also polished the oil filler cap and painted all the lines the proper bronze color along with the power steering cover . The air filter housing was painted original Gloss black and it was cleared. I serviced the car at autobahn service here in Fort Lauderdale. Here is what I had done. New motor mounts, new transmission mount, New fuel filters, new oil filter with fresh oil change using Shell Rotella 15/40. New bushings on suspension, the Ac is Original R12 and freezing cold. New tires, the brakes have less then 3000 miles on them. New battery, and the rest of the car was inspected and was in no need of anything else being replaced. The exhaust system in excellent as is the entire undercarriage of the car including the rocker panels. See pictures. These cars were built like tanks. With Mercedes building over a million of them it was a car that had a reputation for running forever. There are 240 D’s that have gone over 2 million miles and many that have gone nearly a million miles. This car hasn’t even been broken in and truly will outlast its owner. I have all the documentation on the car and its mileage history. Along with lots of service history. Original books, 3 keys and work shop manual. Full size original spare and tools were never used. So if your looking the The best 240 D around and a car that will never let you down and will get more attention then any Ferrari etc, then this is the car to own. Please read my feedback as I take pride in selling great cars. Call me if you have any questions. Steve 954-464-3515

I have clear California title, car still has Ca plates, all books, service, and tools

For a non-turbodiesel W123, the asking price here represents very strong money indeed. If it’s performance you are after, this is not the car for you, as acceleration can be best described as glacial. Even considering the low mileage, this car might max out value wise around $12,000 to $15,000. However, for those looking to combine economy and durability in one practical package, there are few better choices than a Mercedes W123. Not only that, you can consider yourself green by pressing into service a used vehicle. And when I say green, I’m not talking about the paintwork…
