1980 Porsche 924 Turbo

It probably sounds crazy, but I find the 924 Turbo pretty fascinating. Born at a time when smaller displacement turbocharged engines were the wave of the future and the rage in motorsport, the 924 is still one of the most aerodynamic cars to make it to the public. This resulted in good fuel economy, which combined with hatchback practicality meant it was a reasonable daily driver. But the weight distribution and turbocharged power plant meant it was at home on the track, too – in turned up Carrera GT, GTS and GTR versions it was a hugely successful race car. It was good looking, too – subtle curves, great ATS wheels and just enough vents and ducts to hint at performance potential. Really, it’s a great package – but in spite of this 924s in general remain one of the cheapest Porsches available. That means you can get into one for quite a deal these days while the rest of the market continues to pull out of reach:

We are pleased to show you another great opportunity! Sky Motor Cars is in the wholesale business and that represents the majority of what we do. When we have a vehicle this nice we present it to the public. Our turn time is quick and depending on auction schedules we may end listings early and take the vehicle to a dealer only auction. Do not hesitate if you are interested! We have supplied many detailed photos to give you an accurate sense of just how nice this one is!

This is a previously enjoyed vehicle so there may be a few light scratches and small chips around the vehicle. Please study the photos provided.

Also note there are many shadows cast on the vehicle due to the conditions in which the photos were taken. If you are unclear of anything please contact us PRIOR to making an offer! Due to the age it will be sold miles exempt.

Highlights of include:

DOCUMENTED 1-OWNER CAR!! 5-SPEED TURBO, BOOKS, WARRANTY CARD, INCREDIBLY CLEAN INTERIOR, STRAIGHT BODY, REMOVEABLE ROOF PANEL, POWER WINDOWS, POWER MIRRORS, POWER ANTENNA, REAR WIPER, ORIGINAL WORKING RADIO, A/C (NEEDS A CHARGE), WELL PRESERVED!!

This vehicle will be reviewed by an independent certified mechanic in accordance with PA state inspection regulations. If for any reason this vehicle does not pass inspection it will be noted.

Back out the normal dealer “A/C needs a charge” line, and this car looks very well kept. It’s not the more desireable 5-bolt, 4-wheel disc cars, but it’s certainly well presented and the color combination of silver over Pascha interior is striking. As 924 Turbos go, this is one of the better ones I’ve seen in the past few years of looking. Miles aren’t unreasonable, and a claimed 1-owner status means it was likely loved and cared for – at least, that would seem to be the case. Pricing is probably a touch high if you consider that you could get into a much quicker and arguably nicer to drive 944 Turbo for the same amount; however, I don’t think it’s far out of line considering the condition. If you could get this car between $6,000 and $7,000, I’d consider it a very affordable classic Porsche to enjoy on the weekends. Not many are left in good shape, and it’s likely that there will be moderate appreciation of this model as time goes by.

Looks fairly priced for the most part. About $1000 high and the AC issue could be a huge expense to sort out (assuming you need working AC). The key to this car is the pascha interior. Not many were made and not many still have these interiors in such nice condition. This is a reasonable if not cheap way to get into the Porsche collector car scene.

My brain tells me the 944 is a better car but I still find this 924 irresistible.
