1985 Mercedes-Benz 300CD

The mid 1980s would be a time of serious change for Mercedes-Benz. Not only would the new 190 debut, but the W124 E class would supplant the tried and true W123 series of sedans, coupes and estates. Few cars of the modern era have had such staying power with the motoring public. No matter where my travels take me, I usually see one of these cars knocking around on the streets, sometimes in rough condition. But no matter what you can throw at these cars, they can take it. Thirty years have now passed since the final production year of the W123. This 300CD for sale in California would be a great way to celebrate that milestone.

1985 was the last year Mercedes built the gorgeous 123 series turbo diesel coupe. They made these legendary cars between 1978 and 1985, but only for the last 4 years with the turbo. They are known to be the most reliable and enduring cars Mercedes ever produced. You often find them with over 500k miles and still running well. This particular car was finished in light blue metallic with dark blue MB-Tex interior. It is a gorgeous color combination and I do get compliments on it all the time. The body is in great shape. There are no dings or dents and the paint still shines like on a much newer car. There are only 133k miles on the car and the interior is very clean as well.

There are no rips or tears in the seats and the carpets are clean. Even the wood accents are still in great condition. The radio is still the original one , but it does not come on anymore. I meant to install a newer unit with bluetooth, but I did not get around to it yet. The car drives terrific. It has always been maintained well and it shows. Just recently we installed a new AC compressor and concerted the system to the bewer freon. The AC blows nice and cold. The motor for the sunroof is new as well and the sunroof works the way it should. All the power windows are working fine. This 300CD always starts up right away, has plenty of power and the transmission shifts smooth. It really is a blast to drive in town and even more so on the freeway. On a recent trip from Northern California to Los Angeles I was cruising at 85 miles per hour while getting 27mpg of diesel. This car was built for long-distance driving. I would drive it from here to New York and back at a moments notice. This car would be perfect for somebody who would like a classic car that you can drive every day without the hassles usually associated with older cars. They just do not make em like this anymore. You could drive this car for 10 years and if you take care of it, you will still get at least your money back.

If you have any questions, feel free to send me a note through Ebay and i will get back to you shortly. I would prefer to sell this car locally to somebody who could actually come out and see it. But i would also be willing to help with a airport pick up (LAX) or shipping arrangements for out of town buyers. Please have your funding in order and do all your “due diligence” BEFORE placing a bid. This is a wonderful 30 year old car in great condition and it will be sold WITHOUT a warranty “as is ” and “where is.” I did upload many extra pictures and they can describe the car better than I can. For any more questions or extra pictures, please ask. Thank you for looking at my auction. Good Luck!!

As usual, it never ceases to amaze me how a car with over 133,000 miles can still appear like a couple year old lightly used vehicle. Whether it’s the upholstery, chrome trim, paintwork or mechanicals, it just seems like Mercedes built these W123s out of otherworldly materials. We’ve seen a few 300CDs over the past year range in price from just over $8,600 to $13,000, so the Buy It Now price on this one is certainly within reason considering the mileage and condition of this car.
