1985 Volkswagen DoKa VR6 Swap

Screen Shot 2015-03-04 at 7.22.55 PM

In America, DoKas are so rare that even mediocre examples (albeit with a GoWesty engine) can go for almost $40k. In Germany, you can get this amazing VR6’d DoKa for less than $10k. The matte/murdered-out look is a bit past its prime, but if any sleeper deserves a mean rattle-can job, it’s a crew-cab VW van-truck with more than twice its original horsepower. The seats have been nicely recovered, highlighting an interior that is functional if not cohesive. Double bonus points for the home-brew see-through engine cover. Like a Ferrari, but with a window from West Marine! All told, this is a Vanagamino that isn’t clean or perfect, but it’s not trying to be either. It’s made to blow minds and scare children.

The seller of that last DoKa spent $16k on the truck, $3k to import it, and $17k in upgrades. For 1/3 of that you could have this monster in your driveway, ready for use for anything from daily driving, hauling light loads, or some terrifying cab-forward drifting. I love it and I want it. Maybe I should just move to Germany, where I just make a hobby of cycling through an array of weird domestic market machines that are nearly impossible to come by here. I’ll write you guys a postcard.

Those look like Mercedes-Benz-spec Centra wheels that have the stars taken off and blacked out. Interesting choice, because they mimic the VW Bottlecap design from the ’86/’87 GTi, GLi and Golf GT (maybe Jetta Carat, too?). I liked the Audi V8 engined one a bit more but this is cool!
