1987 BMW 535i

We’ve seen an array of E28 flavors recently. We’ve examined how nice a 524td has to be to make for its lack of pace to how much work a 535is is worth when it still looks badass. Well, today was have a nice example of the bread-and-butter E28. It’s like the E28 version of E60’s 550i – a restrained but powerful 5er. Remarkable cleanness inside and out belie 178k miles. The M30 should have little problem going quite a ways more, and the lack of real history is less of a concern than something like an S38.

Up for your consideration is a beautiful survivor – a 1987 BMW 535i

NADA Classic Cars Guide says average retail value is $6,225 , high retail is $8,700. This car has a clean and clear AZ title. We sell a lot of classic BMWs, and 535i in the E28 body is one of our favorites. This particular one is FULLY LOADED with:

3.4 liter inline-6 M30B35 engine (good for 182 hp, which was a very impressive number when the car was new, and still feels quick today)
Dual power seats
Power windows, door locks, mirrors, sunroof, etc
ABS brakes
All amenities listed above function just fine. EVERY button that controls front seats adjustments works. Factory cassette stereo works, too.

The undercarriage and the body of the car are exceptionally clean; there is no rust.

The car comes to you with a fresh oil change, fresh battery, a very nice matching set of wheels and tires, new driveshaft center support bearing, etc , etc. Factory tool kit and the two original BMW keys (one with a built-in light) are present.

I wouldn’t hesitate to drive this thing anywhere. Test-drives and pre-bid inspections are welcome and encouraged. I will answer all your questions to the best of my ability, we are confident in this car but please understand that you will be buying it as-is because of its age and miles.

It’s a very handsome 5er, no frills, but luxury sport through and through. The Style 33 wheels are some of my least favorite on their native E39 (and can’t stand chrome), but they fit well here. There are no parts or stats that stand out here, but that’s pretty emblematic of the 5-series in general: an all-around performer that’s a lot of car for the price.
