1987 Mercedes-Benz 300TD

If there was ever a car that looked more at home on the forecourt of a country club, it was the W124 series Mercedes E-class estate. This was a car synonymous with the well-heeled housewives or those summer jaunts to New England beaches. While utilitarian, this is a rather stately machine. Take it to the local market and you would have no problem finding this 300TD amongst the myriad of vanilla, look-alike SUVs jamming the parking lot. This 300TD for sale in British Columbia is a Canadian market car, but given its age of over 25 years, is legal for US importation.

This is an extremely rare and well preserved 1987 MERCEDES BENZ 300TD WAGON, 7 seater, which has covered only 196,300 Kilometers (121,925 Miles) since new. It was originally sold in Vancouver, BC and it has had two owners only. The car is currently registered in British Columbia, Canada. This MERCEDES is powered by smooth, ECONOMICAL and quite powerful 3.0 L 143HP 6 Cylinder turbo diesel motor. It drives great – it feels quite powerful, very quiet and smooth. No Rust!! As it can be seen from the photographs, it is in excellent, well-preserved condition. There are few minor imperfections as seen on the pictures. Very rare car sold in North America in 1987 only.

The interior is very clean, no cracks on the dash, no rips on the Leather seats – yes, it has leather upholstery, not MB Tex. All electrical accessories work – power windows, mirrors, sunroof, AC, etc. There are lots of notes in the service booklet. We were told, that transmission has been rebuilt due to reverse gear failure, although we have no record of it. No Leaks – completely dry underneath. The Self Leveling Suspension works as it should and does not leak. It comes with all books (Including the metal service plate) and keys.

The 1987 300TD is a bit of a special W124 for those of us in the North American market, as it would be the only year the OM603 inline-6 diesel would be available. For 1988, the 300TE would take its place, with the petrol powered M104 inline-6 under the hood. So for those that want that W123 in a more current package but want to retain the diesel durability, you have but one choice unless you are industrious and decide to import a pre-1990 W124 diesel powered estate. The last W124 estate we saw was back in June, a 1995 E320 that it sold for $5,400. It had about 10,000 more miles on the odometer than this 300TD. I’d suspect we’re somewhere around $6,000 to $7,000 at a maximum value, taking into account that some might be seeking the rare NA market diesel option.

This might be the one car I would swap my E320 wagon for.

The three best looking wagons are this, The Audi Allroad and the BMW E46. Mercedes has fallen very far since this era.
