1987 Volkswagen GTI

$_57

It’s been a while since I’ve found a GTI that sticks out, but in a nice green on gold BBS wheels and an old-school BBS bodykit, this one will definitely turn a few heads. It seems like its been around a bit (Autocheck shows 9 owners), but the GTI is probably the best “project car” to continue working on without fear of something that you can’t find/fix/replace. Similar to the exterior, the interior has sweet Recaros and some other add-ons that are fine but not great. Overall it’s a pretty good GTI with many desirable upgrades inside and out. A little simplification would help it become a sweeter ride.

What I have here is a 1987 US built GTI. The shell is a 16v with a 8v swap by the previous owner. This car has lived in WV and just recently PA it’s whole life.

**No longer has Rallye front.

Inspected until 11/14

The garage that built the car started from a shell and went from there. Pretty much everything on this car says “made in Germany”. The previous owner was in the military and got a lot of the parts from Germany. The car was built around 10 years ago and was done right, besides some things that looked rushed but nothing major.

The motor is a 89-90 8v head on a 2.0 Audi 80 block (bubble block). Rebuilt at the time of car being built. Estimated 80k on it. Runs really strong and it’s pretty damn quick. Has cam, cam gear… Full Bosal exhaust with cat delete.

Has a diesel trans for the better ratios. Was rebuilt before I got it with new internals and fluids.

Sitting on newer bilsteins and tokiko Springs with a 1″ drop. Drives amazing.

Full Autotech Front/Back, Upper/Lower strut braces.

– Brand new Enkei 92s 15×7 all around with toyo 195/45

No rust. BBS body kit is mint, this car deserves an owner that will keep it as a time piece.

Custom mixed paint, great color.

Interior :

-Near minty Recaro Trophies with no rips
-red stripe leather interior dash had NO cracks
-GLI recaro back seat minty
-custom/fresh headliner
-diamond plate VW floor mats brand new
-MOMO steering wheel/peddles/shift knob
-power windows

-Needs alignment.

Not sure if I’m missing anything, I know I am but I can answer anything you need. This is a garage queen and I never let it see rain even.

The Rallye front end in the video is a nice piece of kit, but I love the single rounds and think they are a better fit for the car. I can’t see it going for a whole lot more than the opening bid of $5k, but if you toss the diamond-plate floormats and get a more subdued steering wheel, this would be a nice little GTI to run around in on the weekends. For someone with an extreme attention to detail to fix the little things, it could be even be fun to take to VW shows. It’d certainly cost a lot more than $5k to get a beat Mk2 looking like this.
