1989 Mercedes-Benz 420SEL

The W126 S class was a childhood dream car for me. While most my age were enchanted by Countaches and Testarossas, I was dreaming of owning a black W126 some day. To this day, these big sedans represent everything I love about the Three Pointed Star. These were cars that solidified the idea that everything you did, the Germans could do better. I still see plenty of S classes from this era on the road and like a fine timepiece, they just don’t go out of style. This 1989 420SEL for sale in New York has been lovingly cared for and while it isn’t the top of the line 560SEL, it has the rare orthopedic seat option. Certainly a boon for anyone contemplating long journeys in this fine machine.

Bruno Sacco, the Italian designer of the infamous Mercedes Benz W126 is now relived in this world class example, a 1989 Barolo Red Metallic Mercedes Benz 420SEL. This two owner, very low mileage (45,610) Mercedes is truly among one of the finest in the world that has still survived. The car has always been garaged, never seen snow, and has always been maintained and serviced at the Mercedes Dealer. Featuring the exterior color in Barolo Red Metallic, with a light beige interior, this is truly one of the rarest and most beautiful color combinations ever produced by Mercedes Benz. It runs and looks just like it rolled out of the showroom. It is by far one of the nicest cars to drive, the transmission shifts beautifully and accelerates with ease. Absolutely everything works on the car. The A/C blows ice cold, all lights and buttons function as they should and the stereo sounds beautiful! This has one of the rarest options that was available and is known as pneumatic cushions in the driver, and passenger seat. What this option allows you to do is to select a position in the seat and then with the turn of a dial enhance back and leg support. It comes with two Master Keys and the Valet Key. This was my uncles car from New Jersey and he gave it to me since he is no longer driving it and is just sitting in the garage. He stated that he took out the rear headrests since he was unable to see out of the back window, along with the owners manuals. He would look for them and if he finds them will give them to me, and I will forward them to the new owner.

You will not find another one as nice as this, so do NOT MISS out on this once in a lifetime opportunity to own one of the Best Mercedes ever built!

The name of this particular hue, Barolo Red, is quite apt. It looks as supple on this W126 as this wine can be on the palate. This looks to be one nice, dealer maintained machine. This should be helpful when it comes to sourcing the servicing history, if the owner by chance doesn’t have all the records on hand. Given the condition and mileage, this is probably about a $12,000 to $15,000 vehicle, and might stretch a bit further in the bidding if the right buyers are in the (virtual) room.

This car is stunningly beautiful. I think the Mercedes W126 was the best S-class ever built.
I would prefer it with black interior, though.
If properly maintained, this car will outlast every “modern” S-class and give you pleasure for the next 20 years.
