1989 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Coupe – REVISIT

s-l1600

The very pretty Diamond Blue Metallic 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Coupe we featured in early June remains up for auction. The seller has added a $34K BIN price to help entice buyers and provide clarity on what sort of price he’s seeking. Previous auctions have fallen a few grand short of that number though so we’ll have to see where this ends. With more than 155K miles this 964 has lead a pretty good life thus far and still presents well, but buyers will have to make sure they’re fully versed on its maintenance to understand any costs that may arise in the near future.

The below post originally appeared on our site June 1, 2016:

My quest for interesting 964s continues apace and while many of them exist they are rarely easy to find. Enter the example we see here, a rare Diamond Blue Metallic 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Coupe, located in Florida, with Marine Blue leather interior and a robust 155,102 miles on it. Readers might recall that I featured a Diamond Blue Metallic 3.2 Carrera Coupe last week with a similarly contrasting interior. That 911 offers a nice juxtaposition for grasping the changes Porsche instituted when it debuted the 964, the first full redesign the 911 had seen in over a decade. The new shape was a little rounder, a little more stocky looking. It also came with a host of technological changes, most significantly the debut of the Carrera 4 – Porsche’s first all-wheel drive 911. While the system has seen significant improvements since its debut it still stands as one of the more significant changes brought to the quirky engineering of Porsche’s most iconic road car.

Meticulously maintained, extremely clean and mostly original, some small stones chips on hood, front spoiler pushed up slightly, the best of everything over the years, privately owned by PCA member for 3 years, never tracked, only 4 cars painted diamond blue metallic in 1989, never offered for sale by the current owner, reasonable reserve.

Sunroof works great, 5-speed, very nice 17 inch (7&9s) factory Carrera Cup wheels, nearly flawless navy leather interior (some small marks but leather has been conditioned over the years and is very nice), no smells, glass in good condition, headliner clean and unblemished, factory original thick pile 80s carpet in great condition, recently added retro Coco mats, radio delete, newer Michelin Pilot Super Sport (~250 miles on rears, ~3,200 miles on fronts), recent oil & filter service, COA, coilovers, lowered, ss sport exhaust sounds great, original books/manuals, all receipts, all wheel drive works well, new battery, always covered and garaged, never smoked in, factory cruise control (doesn’t work), engine runs great-minimal leaks, good compression (strong and smooth, no smoke) – matching numbers, transmission shifts as it should – matching numbers, AC blows cold (recent service), original keys, no remote fob, rear quarter panel had some damage that was recently repaired, within the last few months I had the factory leather covered steering wheel restored by Alan @ CRLSW in Plantation FL, factory air pump included, car cover included, clear FL title, private owner and registration, sold as-is, I encourage PPI by local mechanic of your choosing or personal inspection, car is located in Daytona Beach Florida in a secured gated community.

It’s amazing the difference a set of wheels can make to a car’s appearance. The original ClubSport wheels are, I’m sorry to say, not very attractive looking and really tend to turn me away from a lot of examples I see. These Carrera Cup wheels, however, are fantastic and really bring life to the 964 design. The entire look of the car is improved. And this is a pretty nice looking 964, especially when we consider its mileage. There are a few blemishes here and there, but with more than 155K miles and nearing 30 years of age everything shows remarkably well and hints at a great deal of care shown to this 911 over its life. That’s just the sort of thing we like to see with these cars! Bidding currently sits at $26,099, not a bad price for a nice 964 though certainly entering the upper tier given the mileage. That mileage means it’ll need a thorough checkup, but with good care these cars can have a long life and this one should still possess plenty of enjoyable miles.
