1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Coupe

I’ve been going through a lot of 911 Turbos lately – not that there’s anything wrong with that – so let’s move on to something valued a little more on the attainable side of the spectrum. This also rekindles my search for interesting 964s, something that was sparked by again seeing the lovely Carrera 4 that typically roams the streets of my neighbornood. Here we have a Venetian Blue Metallic 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Coupe, located in California, with a White leather interior and 148,051 miles on it. Venetian Blue is a great color that we’ve seen a few times on the 3.2 Carrera and this would be the first I’ve seen of it on a 964. In part, that’s because it wasn’t available, which would make this a paint-to-sample option. We don’t have verification of the originality of that paint here so I think that may be one of the first chores prospective buyers will have to embark upon, but in most other ways this early example of the 964 looks in very nice shape and the seller has provided us with a good deal of pictures to assess that condition.

1990 Porsche Carrera 4 with excellent factory color combination, Venetian Blue Metallic. Stored in a California garage and not driven for the past 4 years. Some leakage from engine, runs well but all mechanical systems need to be checked prior to daily driving.

As I said, from what we can see this looks like a very nice 964. But it’s what we can’t see that may be of greatest concern. The seller mentions that this 911 has sat for a few years and that the engine does show some leakage. So we’re going to have to factor some engine work into the price. Whether there are other lingering issues will go a long way into working out a sale, but suffice it to say a PPI will be a must. Given the higher mileage a little bit of work isn’t necessarily a deal breaker, just so long as it can be had reasonably. Right now that’s looking to be the case as bidding sits at $24,350. That’s still $10K shy of the BIN price, but even that price isn’t terribly out of line for a good-looking 964. If the PTS paint is original and the mechanical state isn’t too out of whack then this could make for a pretty nice option, but bidding is definitely approaching the max most would be comfortable with paying given the likely work needed.

Venetian Blue is not paint to sample on 90 and 91s. In fact my 91 Cab was not only Venetian Blue with a Blue top but it had an identical interior to the car on offer. In fact i’ve seen a few others with the same paint / interior combination. For what it’s worth I “stole” the Cab because this color combo (particularly the interior) was considered a difficult sale at the time.

Look at the mercury paint on that other car in the background.

@JBO, thanks for the information. My usual reference for paint codes and years must be off on this one as it lists Venetian Blue as only being available from 87-88. Good to know regardless.
