1990 Porsche 944S2 Cabriolet

$_4 (1)

In light of the bidding frenzy on the extremely low mileage Porsche 944 Turbo we featured earlier in the week, I had the urge to seek out another 944 to feature, although this time a little less common of a model. The 944 Cabriolet was sold for two years in the US, with less than 2,500 sold here. It came late in the lifecycle of the 944, equipped in this market solely with the 2.5 liter 16-valve engine. This has been a model relegated to relative obscurity, even amongst P-car fanatics. The weather outside might suggest differently for some of us, but it’s a great time to start thinking about that drop top and get a jump on your summer motoring plans. This 944 Cabriolet for sale in Florida has covered almost 100,000 miles but appears in good shape.

For those of you that have followed our Strangerover site on the internet know that lately we have been trying to do some different types of vehicles like International Scounts, Mercedes G Wagens, old Broncos, exotic and collectible types etc etc because it is becoming very difficult to import these old Land Rovers from England. Earl will be going to England in the next few weeks to hand pick a bunch for the coming months, so with that being said it brings us to this 1990 Porsche 944S2 Cabriolet. Not many of these out there for sale. Lots of plain 944s but the Cabriolets with the 16 valve engine were quite rare.

This one has a nice white exterior and a dark blue power canvas top and leather interior with a dark blue matching canvas convertible boot. Has a 5-speed manual transmission and 16 valve ventiler engine that runs very strong and has plenty of power. Has power windows, door locks, top and air conditioning. Very clean trunk and engine compartments. Decent set of tires and factory alloy wheels. Has an aftermarket AM/FM radio with built in CD but does not power up. So call me for the Buy It Now, you’ll be surprised. Don’t hesitate, it may not last through the auction. We reserve the right to end the auction early. If you’re looking for one of these it’s worth the call!

I’m sure many of you are going to have questions. Please call me with any questions or offers. Some of you may know more about these than I do. Please remember this is a little older technology so you cannot expect a new car experience. Take a good look at the picture gallery below and you can get a feel for what this Porsche is. I was never a huge fan of the 944 Cabriolet styling. The treatment above the rear tail lights seemed a bit awkward and with a design as iconic as the hardtop was, I feel as if you just don’t mess with some things. But I still like these cars all in the same. It might not be to some people’s taste, but I do like the white with blue top and blue interior combination. Mercedes-Benz had a similar color combination for their 560SL and I feel it lends a bit of a nautical theme to the car, which is in keeping with where a cabriolet would normally find itself.

I always liked the 944 and 968 Convertibles. Looking at the 911 prices, these cars are the ultimate steal to become a Porsche owner. White and blue with a blue top looks very nice on these cars.
It cracks me up how the seller created a new limited “Ventiler” edition. I bet he meant that the car is a 16-Ventiler (16valve)…………..

The 944S2 Cabriolet was actually imported to the U.S. for two years (1990/1991) – I have proof in the form of a sub 50k mile ’91 in my garage. 🙂

Actually that’s not a 2.5 liter engine – It’s a 3.0 liter engine, making around 208 HP. And yes, I also have proof, in the form of my wife’s ’91 cab, a +150K mile example.

A seriously wonderful car that is just loads of fun to bomb around in on country roads and handles like a dream, especially at speed.
