1993 BMW 525iT

Wagons are our thing here at GCFSB, and even though our second installment of Wagon Week just ended, we’ll always throw in a favorite five door in the mix here and there. Shortly after Audi introduced Quattro and turbocharging to the wagon formula, BMW decided to take it’s 3 series Touring idea up one notch bigger with the E34 5 series Touring. Available with a number of engines, including a fire-breathing M5 variant that was verboten for US customers, these haulers became the darling of the well-to-do leisure set. This 525i Touring for sale in Florida isn’t perfect, but for someone looking for a solid base that needs a few finishing touches, this would be a prime candidate.

1993 BMW 525i TOURING WAGON Low miles 89K great condition

WBAHJ6318PGD22538

Selling my 1993 BMW 525i Touring wagon with only 89K original miles, in great mechanical and cosmetic condition. I bought this wagon from a family who had it as a third car in Miami Beach, and did not have much use. I have extensive work history for the car.

After buying this wagon earlier this year, I had my mechanic (German Autos in Pompano Beach) go over everything, spending over $2000 to make suspension repairs, tune up, etc. I bought a set of 16” BBS – BMW wheels from a 740i, which are the same style as the OEM, but in 16”, better looking than the stock 15”. I had the wheels refinished.

I had the car professionally painted, spending over $2,000. (see picture below while the wagon was being painted). This wagon comes with the hard to find roof rack crossbars. Seats were re-died, door panels fixed and re-glued, new emblems, new clear side markers and turn signals, some new moldings, etc.

Engine and transmission are perfect. Air conditioner is ice cold, front shocks are new, rear will need to be replaced as they are getting soft, but the car rides fine. New battery, original radio/cassette working, all gauges work, all lights work, new wiper blades (3), even the windshield washers work great. Car starts quick, perfect idle, shifts very smooth, and the temperature is always normal, even in hot Florida weather.

I did not finish the restoration, as some health issues changed my plans. The sunroof is all there, but not operational. The rear section of the headliner needs replacing (all included, even the material to do it), and the trim for the rear hatch was cracked, and I bought a replacement that has to be painted gray and installed.

The car needs nothing to be driven anywhere. Very reliable, impossible to find in this condition. Cruise control works, all power windows work, power locks, etc. The rear license plate area was painted black to match the European version. The rear decal is from the Autobahn.

I bought a set of clear inserts for the taillights, which would need to be installed to eliminate the amber from the taillights. (see next to last picture for an European clear taillight example to get an idea of how it looks like). These are no longer available anywhere.

I have invested over $8000 in this car, and countless number of hours. It ins not a perfect, showroom car, but a great example of an E34 Touring Wagon. These wagons have a special cult – like followers. Classy, reliable, easy to maintain. Again, not perfect, as it was my work in process, but very good looking and reliable. Open to reasonable offers.

No international buyers. Wire transfer or cash payment upon pick up. Payment in full within 7 days of auction end. No checks, no exceptions. All funds must clear before taking possession of the car. Sold as is, no warranty of any kind. You are welcome to inspect and test drive the car, or send someone to inspect it. I have made every effort to describe the car to the best of my knowledge and assume no responsibility for any omissions on description.

I would not hesitate to get in this car and drive it across the US. However, do not expect a brand new, $80K BMW. This is a special car for a special crowd, those who know and like it. I am losing lots of money at my buy it now and reserve price. If you have any questions, please send me your contact information and I will contact you.

Rob featured a similar 1993 525iT for Wagon Week that just sold for $2,651. That car had 153k miles on the clock but presented, cosmetically at least, just as well. I’d suspect $6,500 is a bit reaching when that sort of money, or not much more, will get you into a later E39 Touring. Probably somewhere around $4,500 to $5,500 would be a more reasonable figure. The perfect jumping off point, then, to build the E34 M5 Touring clone of my dreams…
