1993 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.6 Limited Edition

The 1990s would bring about a shift in Mercedes-Benz naming language, but the year before the C class would arrive, the original baby Benz, the 190E, would have one last shout in the form of two Limited Edition models. The 190E 2.3 Limited Edition would be offered only in Emerald Green over parchment leather with burlwood trim. The 190E 2.6 Limited Edition, like the one we see here for sale in Missouri, was offered solely in black over black and red leather with carbon fibre trim. While the 2.3 Limited Edition was tuned more towards luxury, this 2.6 had a bit more aggression with the Sportline spec. On offer were tighter suspension settings and sport seats, among other features. This 190E 2.6 Limited Edition is especially attractive, having had one owner for many years with low mileage showing on the odometer.

MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to present this unique and quite rare 1973 Mercedes-Benz 190E Limited Edition. This Schwarz black example (the only color it came in!) defies its age and would be comfortable as a daily driver or weekend date night cruiser. Residing with the same loving family for 18 years, this fabulous car is one of 700 produced in 1993 to commemorate the conclusion the 190’s ten-year production run.

Before AMG took over as the sporting arm of Mercedes-Benz, there was the Limited Edition (or L-E) 190 for those seeking a bit more performance. For the US market, the Limited Edition option was available on the W201 190E 2.6 in 1993. Features such as a quicker steering box, lowered ride height, tuned suspension and larger anti-roll bars made it into the mix making this a rare case of less flash and more substance. The Limited Edition Mercedes-Benzes have lived on in relative obscurity, known only to the true Mercedes-Benz faithful.

Finished in factory Schwarz black, the exterior finish remains mostly original according to owner, it shows well with only minor hail imperfections on the roof and deck lid and some light scratches visible upon inspection. Front and rear bumpers have an excellent fit and finish that shows well and matches the grey protective side body pieces. All trim pieces are present and have a shadow line finish with very little hazing and or dents that we could see. The weather stripping is still very pliable with very little shrinkage or drying. It should also be noted the inside hood insulation is missing. The U.S. spec headlights and taillights are in very condition with no hazing or cracks, the original equipment wheels present well with very little marring and curb rash. Note: Left headlamp washer is inoperable.

Inside, the rich black “Recaro” style leather sport seats with brilliant red piping and inserts look great with no major signs of wear visible. Original carpet is very presentable as are the door panels, dashboard, center console, factory steering wheel, and headliner which mirrors the cabin and completes the red accented theme, all are a testament to the care and maintenance this handsome car has received over the years. Overall the optional carbon fiber trim looks great with the optional Sportline shift knob. Interior also features fully functional gauges, an upgraded Rockford Fosgate AM/FM/CD player (original factory radio included), power windows, power sunroof, cruise control, climate control, power adjustable front seats, power locks, and so much more. Note: AC is currently not operable.

This nicely represented Mercedes is equipped with the 2.6L inline six cylinder engine, 4-speed automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, 4 wheel disc brakes, sport-rated lower control arms and bushings, shocks/springs, rear sub frame mounts, larger front/rear sway bars and Quicker ratio steering box, original Mercedes aluminum wheels with Michelin radials. Included is the original owners manual and a collection of records/documents and receipts.

It’s not often you get the opportunity to own a piece of Mercedes history in a handsome and reliable late model package. Ideal for an everyday driver or weekend get-a-ways, this 190E Limited Edition is the way it’s suppose to be…luxurious exterior with the heart of German motorsports. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!

Current mileage on the odometer shows 70,260 miles. It is sold as is on a clean & clear mileage exempt title.

The W201 has always held a special place in my heart. It combined traditional Mercedes styling cues with rock solid build quality and an air of dignity that you just don’t have with the more modern machines wearing the Three Pointed Star. While this 190E 2.6 Limited Edition has a sporting edge, it is eclipsed in popularity when compared to that homologation special, the 190E 2.3-16. Values for those DTM derived machines have been increasing, so perhaps obscurity is a good thing in this case, because you can get a deal on one of the last, and rather special, W201s.

The hauteur of a reserve auction and they won’t go to a scrapyard and replace the hood insulation for five minutes and five bucks.

You don’t pull hood insulation from a scrap yard! (Maybe buy one from the dealer, but that may be too much asking sometimes)
