1996 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S – REVISIT

$_57

The Aventurine Green Metallic 1996 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S we featured in early January is still looking for a new owner and is back up for auction. Pricing remains more or less the same, though the seller has now provided some leeway by making it a No Reserve Auction with a starting bid of $72,500, while keeping the Buy It Now price at $75,000. I can’t help but think that the lack of quality pictures is holding this car back a bit, but at the moment the ad remains unchanged.

The below post originally appeared on our site January 2, 2015:

While wide-body 911s have always been popular the design seems to have really hit its stride with the 993 and every iteration that has followed has looked tremendous with those wider rear fenders. Don’t get me wrong, the earlier turbos and other special 911s looked quite good as well, but once the 911 took on the curvier shape of the 993 that wider rear began to look just right. I’d even hazard to say that the narrow-body cars now look slightly out of place; they’re too slim. The Carrera 4S showcases those extra curves extremely well while providing the added benefit of all-wheel drive to help keep things moving in the intended direction. As with most 993s the market has remained strong for these cars, especially in colors we come across less often like this Aventurine Green Metallic 1996 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S, located in Connecticut, with 58,009 miles on it.

There has been a lot of talk in the comments lately about photography, both good and bad, and I have a feeling this ad might engender further discussion. Here we have a truly beautiful and classic color combination, with an exterior color that can shift and change with the light that is both eye catching and subtle at the same time. But here, with small pictures and low light, it looks drab, maybe even boring. The interior we can see fairly well though the contrast seems off somewhat. So what does this all mean? Well, for one this car hasn’t sold yet even though it is priced some $20K lower than similar cars we’ve featured previously. Granted those cars were likely overpriced, and this one has a few more miles, but given the demand for the 993 in general I’d expect this car wouldn’t sit around for too long.

This car 100% deserves to be professionally photographed. I saw one of these in Arizona once, stopped me right in my tracks, that metallic Green is truly a paint to behold.

SAI ports cleaned? Thats usually good for a short term fix but only a matter of time until the OBDII kicks a CEL light again. The only real solution is the whole top end. I love the car, the color is usually hit or miss with people. I typically dont care about color as long as the deal is right.

The bid / offer spread in these air cooled cars is pretty wide. We’re seeing a lot of cars priced to the moon but not a lot selling at those prices. If this seller was serious about selling and wanting that slice of the top market …. as has been stated his listing needs a whole lot more action, detail and photos.
