1998 BMW 318ti M-Sport

Just the other day, Paul looked at a 1998 BMW 318ti in Oxford Green. An offbeat commuter, the condition of that car was great, but not so much was the near $7,000 price. Today I have another 318ti to look at, but this one ups the ante a bit. Again it is an original M44 car in great shape with well below average miles. The color is a little less 90s spectacular, but still looks nice in Alpine White. However, it’s the addition of the California roof and the M-Sport package which really helps this hatch stand out. Let’s take a look:

For your consideration is a gorgeous 1998 318ti M-Sport. Finished off in Alpine White 3 with a Anthracite Black Interior. No rust!

This E36 only has 85,xxx miles which makes this a very low mileage BMW. This 318ti features the awesome M44 1.9L 4 cyl engine which gives you great horsepower combined with excellent MPG!

Being the M-Sport model, it has 16 inch alloy wheels, M3 front and M Sport rear Bumpers, Sports Suspension tuning, all power options, etc… It’s fully loaded!

This 318ti is optioned with the highly desirable California top. It is a large canvas sunroof that folds back to reveal a convertible like opening. The top operates so smoothly! It works beautifully and truly adds a lot of character and driving enjoyment to this stunning hatchback.

The exterior is finished in Alpine White 3 with no rust on the body. The front end has a clear bra so it is completely free of chips and nicks. The exterior is free of any major defects or damage. The interior is extremely clean and smoke-free. The paint is in excellent shape with nice luster.

The mechanical condition of this 318ti is superb. The engine starts without hesitation, and the engine runs great with no smoke and excellent power. The transmissions shifts perfectly and without any issues.

If you are looking for a truly nice, rear, unique, and fun to drive E36, then look no further.

Again we see the automatic transmission in the center console, and surely for most that’s a detraction. However, stick with me, because the auction here is no reserve unlike the last one. Top that off with a cool cloth interior and this is one cool runabout. As manual swaps are possible and relatively straightforward on these cars, for an enthusiast this could really be a neat way to set themselves apart from the crowd. Bidding at time of writing has just crested $3,000; figure there’s probably the best part of another $1,000 – $2,000 coming, but even then this isn’t a bad deal I think. Throw on some DS2s of Forged Double Spokes, save up some money for a 5-speed conversion and pop the roof and enjoy the buzz of getting good mileage while still standing out from the crowd.

No mention of any Dinan upgrades. I guess the Dinan badge is just for show/wannabe?

It looks like the exhaust is a Dinan unit. Outside of that, it does look a little low…maybe suspension too.
