1998 Mercedes-Benz E320 4Matic Estate

If you summer in The Hamptons, frequent Cape Cod or wander around an Ivy League campus, you’ll notice a curious thing if you are a car enthusiast. The monied folk often eschew the ubiquitous luxury SUV for the kind of car we see here, the luxury estate car. Many of them are available with all-wheel drive, like this 1998 Mercedes-Benz E320 Estate for sale in Texas. If an SUV is a bit too over the top for you, but you still need the cargo capacity and all-wheel drive versatility, this low mileage W210 E class is a good compromise.

They might be handy for some, but since I don’t live in a warm climate, I could do without the tinted windows. Also, the installation of the satellite receiver leaves a lot to be desired. Sure, such technology wasn’t as well integrated over a decade ago, but I can’t imagine installing something that would misalign the glove box door this much. There are much better ways of installing such an item. Those two issues excepted, this is one of the cleanest W210 estates I’ve seen in a long time. Like the W124s before them, these are workhorses for certain sects of the upper class. The breadvan-esque rear styling of the W210 lends a bit more practicality than the sloped backs of the predecessor and successor of this model, but will they ever be as loved as the legendary W123? Time will tell.

Don’t these early versions of E320s have issues with the 4-wheel drive?
i believe the 2001-2002s all wheel drive are much better…

    A great beater.

We have a 2000 bought new in 2000 that is just about to break 160,000.

The “Body” that preceded this one is to be avoided if they are 4Matic. The V6 makes good power and 28 mpg on the highway is not out of the question. It is a great car on the highway. Visibility is excellent and it eats up miles in typical MB fashion. This is one of the few cars that does not cause me to squirm in the seat. I can drive it all day.

Window regulators and the engine wiring harness can give you trouble. A major expense can be the self leveling suspension on the rear of the car.
