2000 BMW 528i Touring

The E39 BMW 5 series has rather a large fan base at GCFSB. Also, continuing with the theme of estates from our last post, this body style is quite popular amongst European car enthusiasts. The E39 Touring wasn’t the most popular vehicle in the BMW lineup ten years ago, a fact that is abundantly clear today, as an estate variant of the current F10 5 series is not offered for sale in the United States.

Here is an E39 Touring for sale with just under 80,000 miles and the desirable sport package for sale in Philadelphia.

2000 BMW 528i Touring on eBay

LOW MILES! Sport Package! Wagon! Classic silver/gray color combination! CD CHANGER! The Car has been inspected by our mechanic!

You are looking at a well kept, great looking sporty luxury wagon. The vehicle has been made and assembled entirely in Germany, and consists only of Germany made parts! This wagon is renowned in the world for its unique combination of luxury and superior performance thanks to its award winning I6 engine and almost 50/50 weight ratio, it has great performance to it – it handles and performs as you would expect such a highly acclaimed luxury vehicle! The metallic gray exterior combined gray leather interior gives the car a certain kind of unique classy appeal. It’s a never smoked in great sporty looking wagon. The car comes with 2 stage front airbags and 2 side airbags for you and your passenger’s maximum protection.

The engine is an exceptional I6 – one of the most powerful in the segment – runs strong and smooth provides the power you have come to expect from a BMW. The transmission has the BMW mark on it as well and shifts like on a new car, no skips or slips on shifts – actually it does it so smoothly that you can’t feel it shifting. The car runs great! The engine compartment is clean, and free of any leaks.

The vehicle also features DSC or Dynamic Stability Control, which is a lateral skid control system preventing the driver from skidding off the road in sharp turns and generally keeping the vehicles traction at its best. The A/C works well and blows cold air! We had our mechanic check the car and no problems were found with it. As you can judge for yourself from the pictures – the interior is clean while the seats show almost no wear! No electrical problems were found. The check light of the diagnostic computer reads ok. The engine compartment is clean, and free of any leaks.

This BMW is equipped with a dual-zone climate control system. The power locks, windows, seats and moon roof all work and are in excellent condition. It also features dual heated seats. All the power controls and buttons work a 100%. Rims are in great condition. The car also comes all season tires. The tires have been rotated, balanced. This is a very nice looking vehicle. It’s obviously been garage kept, and is in good condition.

Other than the fact this Touring is lacking a 5 speed manual, I have two small issues right off the bat with this car. First, the BMW badge is missing it’s enamel on the tailgate. These are a quick and inexpensive fix that simply finishes the look. Second, the headlights are suffering from the typical hazing. Fortunately, there are fix it kits out there for this problem. Other than that, the Anthracite Metallic over gray leather looks great and I’ve always been a fan of these deep inset BBS style rims. If ever I needed a family hauler, the E39 528 Touring will always been high up on the list.

Highly recommended as a great compromise between driver’s car and family hauler. Always felt far more powerful than the 193hp it was rated at.

My car was silver with the OEM sport front spoiler, but otherwise the same car you see here. Even the “steptronic” transmission (a compromise to keep the peace at home) didn’t diminish the fun that much.

Sure, a 540iT would have been even more fun, but MUCH more cost (both upfront and maintenance). We sold it eventually when the upkeep rose higher than what a car payment would be – but that was well over 100K miles.

The entry price on this one seems a high, but not completely insane.
