2000 BMW M5

$_57 (6)

However subtle the exterior modifications may be, the E39 M5’s enlarged front aperture and unique wheels still grab my attention from blocks away. As nice examples become the exception, these super sedans are hovering around the bottom of their depreciation curve, no longer going down but not shooting up as quickly as they soon will. With examples between 50-100k miles hovering around $25-30k, this looks like an enthusiast-owned driver that’s very nice but not perfect and being sold at a very reasonable price.

Beautiful E39 M5 in all original condition. The car has been lovingly and carefully maintained at a local BMW specialist (Paul’s Auto Werks). The car is in great mechanical condition – everything is in great working order and needs nothing. 60K service, new breaks and new tires in the last 12 months. There are some missing pixels on the dash – fairly common for these cars. The car is in truly great shape and took me almost 12month to find, I am downsizing to a smaller house and really dont want to put it in the storage. Would prefer to sell to a local enthusiast. Please email me with any questions. Price is firm. Thanks for looking.

A little front lip scuffing and blanked pixels seem to be the knocks against it, while the black on caramel combo is absolutely killer. Whether you’re a collector or an enthusiast, picking a clean example up like this is a fun call right now but is going to look like a genius move in just a few short years.

@Nate you found my car!..mine has 6k more miles on it…and is an S2 car…but same Carbon Black/Caramel…
this one still has the original instrumental cluster as I do…the pixels are really a nit-pick and an easy fix…the chips on the front show it has been driven but not too much…I might have to see about this just to have a spare!….LOL
CB/Caramel is a tough combo to find…however I know of a Chiaretto Red Caramel w/29k on the odo for a 30k ask if your interested.

    Hi M Driver,

Any chance you could send me pics of a Chiaretto Red?

    Hello Steve
The Chiaretto Red car is in NY Aventura Motors in South Hampton. I saw the car this past summer.
they have pics on their website.

For a few hundred bucks any decent bumper guy could clean up that front end. I know the pixel issue is pretty common and I know there is an easy fix I just dont know the cost. It would bother me.

Love these M5’s. Lots and Lots of performance for the money. As was mentioned they are nearing the bottom of the decay curve. What would be the cost of ownership over 3 years and 20k miles?

    Hi M Driver,

Chiaretto Red is a nice color to me, but I did here chatter that Chiaretto Red is a very -very common color.

I am tempted, but I do not know anyone in NY that can be my eyes and ears. Not who can do a PPI over there. I guess I should find a forum were all e39 m5s are posting.

I have heard/read the 2001 on up are better due to subtle upgrades.

I also have to consider shipping.
Which would be $1-2k range for an enclosed trailer. Then I have to take the chance it passes CA smog.

Alpine white and Chiaretto Red are my favorite colors.

I recently began looking into the e39 m5s.
Originally I wanted a e36 m3 sedan (97-98 only ). I cannot find any decent ones in my neck of the woods.

Thank you M-driver for your input.

@Howard S..I have had my MY00 M5 since new, it has 68k on the odo maintenance costs are relative to me in the sense that if you perform regular routine maintenance(as I have) you do not get hit with surprise premature failure. The S62 is a well built motor, but it requires attention. I recently replaced the clutch because I felt some minor slippage otherwise nothing major has been done to this car outside of the Dinan S2 package. BTW $200-$250 to fix the cluster..mine is still intact…go figure LOL
@Steve the m5board.com is the best source for anything E39M5 IMHO…start there.
as far as color whomever told you that was wrong.. Chiaretto Red replaced Royal Red and both colors represent 2% production in that color for their respective years..Royal Red from 98 to late 00 and Chiaretto from 01 to 03…with this car the production date is everything as far as color code..

The principle difference between May 2000 build M5’s and later and those built from 2001-2003 is cosmetic.
The “angel-eyes” treatment, the clear turn signal lenses. On the interior you have a different instrument cluster (grey dial backround instead of black), different steering wheel but most importantly the GPS system & screen is bigger/better than MY00..
from a mechanical/performance stand point they are equal.
The E36 M3/4 is a fine car and much more $$$ to maintain than the E39 M5 S62…simply because it is a simpler car. But your right well maintained examples are hard to find especially in a 5speed.
