2001 Mercedes-Benz E320

The W210 E-class was not so much a huge step forward in technology as it was styling for Mercedes-Benz. The four headlamp motif became a fixture in the lineup for years after this car’s introduction. Now in an era when the company seems to have gone off the deep end in terms of aesthetics, this 2001 E320 for sale in Texas looks positively conservative in comparison. Finished in Bordeaux Red Metallic, this example has yet to cross the 20,000 mile mark, a rarity with such a cooking variety E-class of the era.

This E320 is one of those modern Benzes that kind of flies under the radar, overshadowed by AMG wares and the final run of R129 SLs of this era. But there’s something intriguing about getting a lightly used modern classic like this for pennies on the dollar in light of the original MSRP. These W210s were fairly reliable and this one is rear-wheel drive, so you’ll have less servicing costs without the 4Matic system over time. The price is a bit strong for a late model V6 W210, but if you want to make an impression for little cash, this car would certainly do the trick.

Hopefully the fact that it resides in Texas means it has not turned into a rusty POS like my 2000 4Matic wagon did. Who would believe that you still need to replace fenders due to rust-through in this day and age. Bitter? Me? Not at all.

I owned this very model – It was an excellent car except for the transmission. For some reason, MB departed from their normal style and tried a split case unit. It was the ultimate downfall of the car at about 70K miles… It was a VERY expensive lesson…

If you replace the ATF oil religiously every 60,000 miles, i’m sure that expensive lesson could have been avoided!
