Low mileage 2003 Volkswagen Passat W8 Wagon
June 25, 2010 by paul
When Volkswagen introduced the B5 chassis Passat in 1998, they started a revolution. Gone was the quirky, unloved Passat of yore that was maligned for its unreliability and in came a fresh looking mid-sized sedan sporting Audi A4 architecture underneath. In 2002, VW upped the ante and offered a 4.0 liter eight cylinder engine that was a forerunner to the upcoming W12 used in the VW Phaeton, Audi A8 and the astounding W16 engine in the Bugatti Veyron. Not only is the car below in question low mileage, but it is also the less common wagon variant.
The seller states:
One of lowest mileage one-owner Passat wagons in USA. Immaculate creampuff & rarest Passat wagon edition; only 2000 imported to USA. Looks, smells, drives like new car, garaged protected and cared for like a member of family. Perfect paint, no dings, bangs or dents. Clean front bumper without ugly license plate holder. Original cost:$42,400. VW certified and VW 48-month Platinum bumper-to-bumper extended warranty included. Every VW option included, plus all wheel drive, 8 cylinders, dual exhausts, 180 mile hour speedometer, 21 gallon tank, black leather power seats. This car is among the most perfectly preserved examples of the dying breed of the most classic 2001-2005 design which captured Motor Trend’s Car of the Year Award.Features: Power Door Locks, Cassette Player, 17-inch Alloy Wheels, Cold Air Conditioning, Tilt Steering Wheel, Rear Defroster, Console, Center Armrest, Power Driver`S Seat, Power Passenger Seat, Fold Down Rear Seat, Keyless Entry, CD Player, AM/FM Radio, Bucket Seats, Anti-Lock Brakes, Power Mirrors, Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel, Steering Wheel Controls, Heated Seats, Power Outlet, Traction Control, Rear Wiper, Leather/Leatherette, Sunroof, All Wheel Drive, Fog/Driving Lamps, Interior Wood Trim, Auto Climate Control, Cup Holder, Home Link.
W8 Passats are a rare find indeed and this is possibly the lowest mileage W8 wagon that you will come across in a while. While the horsepower advantage isn’t huge over its V6 contemporary, for any gearhead who appreciates engineering and unique engines, this is the car for you.

always an intriguing car (bet it sounds incredible, too), though i imagine the maintenance costs to be astronomical. are there any manual gearbox w8 wagon examples in the united states? i’d love to get an owner’s impressions..

I’d be too scared that might need a $5000 repair…like an AC condenser or oil leak. ! Bit of an orphan when it comes to parts. VW was terrible with supporting Corrados with spare parts.

Way over priced. That is not considered a collectors car by any stretch of the imagination.

The crazy thing is that the 3.6L found in the B6 has even more power than the W8. Nonetheless, I would love to find a W8 Wagon with a manual transmission – did they even come that way?

I know the sedans came with the option of a 6 speed manual. I’m guessing you probably could have ordered a wagon with one as well. Would be a rare beast indeed.

W8′s don’t really sound good at all. The design of the engine is a mess…countless engineering compromises all made for the sake of being able to say you have an 8 cylinder engine.
