I came across this New Beetle and while I never see myself driving a new beetle let alone one with a da Vinci on the side, I thought it was kind of funny, so here it is.
The listing has more description, but I’m going to spare myself the time to write anything other than to say its a Beetle with an air brushed copy of the Mona Lisa on the side. $21,000 to start turning heads.
Seriously, what would Leonardo think?
Here is a a unique opportunity to own the German equivalent of the 1955 Ford Thunderbird. Great looking little coupe at a $22,400 buy it now. The Thunderbird does have it over the DKW in terms of power, with this engine being a tricky 3 cylinder two stroke powering the front wheels. I wasn’t sure what to expect soundwise from an engine like this, two-strokes can really sound awful, but check out the videos online from inside a 1000SP on the road. The 3-2 combo sounds great, you get the sense that you are going a lot faster than you actually are.
The seller provides some good history and promotes the rarity of the vehicle. The seller says this one is # 202, so it is an early car, out of the 5000 built. This one has just over 1,000 miles on the engine, no mention of how many the rest of the car has traveled.
If you want to stand out with out being overly ostentatious at your local car show this is the car for you. Plus you Audi guys have to like the four ring logo on the trunk. It is hard to say what the investment potential here is. At this point I’d guess most all the good 1000SPs left driving are probably being well maintained so numbers shouldn’t shrink anymore. The early production # may make this an appealing collector piece if fully restored as the seller suggests.
This car appears to be in good company as that looks like a Euro Mercedes silbergrün 450SEL lurking in the background in some of the pictures.
I’ve said this before, but sometimes good photos in an advertisement can make all the difference. If it wasn’t for the nice first photo and beautiful color I probably would’ve skipped over this Corrado. I try to seek out auctions without reserves, but this one deserved a listing.

Newcomer to eBay, but not to the business, Club Carrera Motors has an entire fleet of Porsche vintage racers now available for you on eBay.
A couple racers, including a 56 speedster that raced from day 1, some build up race cars, and a few street cars. They look good and have plenty of pictures and info in their listings. Prices are a bit high. If you want to have an instant race team for SCCA, SVRA, HSR, etc., I bet you could get yourself a deal if you bought them all.
From high to low price wise:
Now just pick up to take them with you to the track. Hey it is Mercedes powered so it is German.
Geoff emailed me this one and OMG it’s incredible!! A real survivor with only 12k original miles. The owner states it still smells new!
quote from eBay listing:
Here is one of the rarest and most precious finds in the vintage BMW marketplace. A 1988 M5 with just 12,595 original miles. This is one of the finest and lowest mileage original M5′s in existence today. A true time capsule which looks, drives, and even smells like a new one. The pictures barely do it justice.
With a top speed of 150mph, this historically significant Motorsport model was considered the fastest production sedan in the world when it was introduced in the U.S. in 1988 and here it is in virtually the same condition it came out of the showroom in. Includes all original books, tools, keys, and even the original BMW cassette cleaner. This car is concourse show-ready and an absolute joy to drive.
Jim, I know you were looking for a good clean example. Is this the one?
1984 E30 327S. – Built Jan 1984 as a Euro 323i 5-speed Euro bumpers – Imported and modified by Hardy & Beck (formerly “Alpina West”) in Berkeley, CA in 1984 – this is one of about 12 cars they built – Maybe the only original left – 2.7 bottom end, custom pistons and 323i head, some other performance modifications – Full H&B suspension – 3-piece H&B wheels 15×7 with 205/55-15 – original and perfect delphin grey paint, just clayed and waxed – original BMW cloth sport seats, very nice condition, rear headrests – el. windows and sunroof, A/C – Zender body kit (H&B installed) I bought the car in June this year, and have done the following (by Schatz & Krum in Sacramento): – Timing belt – waterpump – all hoses – new steering rack – control arm bushings – complete A/C overhaul (done by an expensive A/C shop in Auburn) – found and installed the super rare 3-piece H&B wheels to replace the Ronal LS – Italian period correct Dino steering wheel with removable leather center It drives like a dream, very fast (like an Alpina, H&B was named “Alpina West” before). Road & Track tested the car in 2/1985, and recorded a 0-60 time of 6.9s. I have a copy of the magazine. This car needs nothing. Car was serviced by H&B until a few years ago.
I couldn’t really find much quality information on Hardy & Beck and their history. Sounds like a pretty small operation that used to go by ‘Alpina West’ and modified cars with Alpina parts. Gets blurry from there. Anyone have any good information about these guys?
