400 hp 1994 VW Corrado for Sale

August 28, 2010 by Aaron

I love a for sale ad that starts out like this:

“The car makes a LOT of power and is extremely fast. That being said I will not even consider selling it to you if I think you are not responsible enough to respect the car and not kill yourself.”

Amen brother!  I have seen this car out and about and it is as advertised.  The rare combination of performance and appearance.  I have seen a lot of modded Raddo’s that are either really fast, or look fantastic, this car is both.

I know, I know, $18.5k is a ton of money for a 16 year old VW.  But what we have here is a mint Corrado, a car the owner must have $30-35k cash into it.  The color, Bramble, is uber rare.  Lastly, it is capable of 400 hp, in a package this small that puts you in the power to weight ratio of a GT3, Murcielago, or Lexus LFA.

All of a sudden $18k does not sound so bad.  If you like to go fast, within reason, and are a fan of the Corrado I suggest you check this car out.

I bet you guys figured I would comment. That is the same colour as my recently departed 1995 VR6. Mine was not quite that fast,(probably 150 hp on a good day) but also had a Passat engine. Well, I don’t like the sound of the word Undercoated. I would never do that. Deduct. I guess you would have to see how liveable this car is to assess it’s worth. I don’t think there is much point in having a Corrado with more than 250-275 HP. You can’t use it in the first couple of gears and only in a straight line. The brakes are not up to the task of hauling down 400 HP repeatedly. You should go BBK, rather than drivers edition. It does sound well put together by a guy who knows what he is doing. If you are an extremeist…go for it. Corrados are superb cars.

Bob, I would have been disappointed if you did not speak up on this car. I agree with you, and, typically defer to you on all things Corrado. The problem with cars modified to this extreme is that they are very much suited to the builder’s taste. The more extreme the build the more extreme the taste, this must be why I am drawn to stock (‘ish) cars.

I am the owner of this car. Thanks for the ad. I just came across it today and was pretty surprised. And Bob..you are wrong in several aspects. Undercoating..the car is 16 years old.. original oem stuff deteriorates after that long..it will rust the undercarriage if not properly re-coated. Apparently you speak without actual experience driving a car of this caliber. All 5 gears have traction.. and the car is very capable of handling corners..if you know how to drive it. The turbo is controlled Via gear based boost = traction. large hotside for the same reason. and yes, the brakes could use an upgrade, but they slow me down from 150+ mph just fine. :) thanks for the good words tho!
