4WD Week: 2003 Audi RS6

4a3ab37bdd734f1eac04623651adfed4

When I think 4WD German car, I think Audi. They’ve cultivated that image very deliberately over the last 30 years, and the other German makes are just recently catching up in making their full lines available with AWD. But while Mercedes is getting shade for removing some of the AMG fun with the E63 now AWD-only, when Audi released the RS6 there was no question that part of its allure was surefootedness to control the insane 450hp Biturbo V8. The monster is now accessible to the masses as long as they have steady significant income to continue the maintenance. With just 67k miles, the subtle Mugello Blue makes this one of the secretive RSs ever.

Attractively finished in Mugello Blue over silver and touting a twin-turbocharged V8 engine, this 2003 Audi RS6 is a desirable performance sedan that has had only two owners since new. It was originally sold new here in Seattle for $87,310 and features an impressive list of performance and luxury features. All servicing is up-to-date with this RS6, and a new timing belt was installed during the Park Place LTD Service Center’s pre-sale inspection upon arrival.

This RS6 is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.2L V8 engine that develops 450hp/415lb-ft of torque and is backed by a 5-speed Tiptronic transmission. Pair that with Quattro All-Wheel Drive and you’ve got a performance luxury sedan that sprints to 60mph in just over 4 seconds on its way to a top speed just shy of 160mph. This example’s V8 powerplant also features the factory Sound Enhancing Exhaust system that elevates the soundtrack to deadly. Luxury amenities include heated leather sport seats, optional GPS navigation, Bose premium audio with iPod integration, heated rear seats, dual-zone auto climate control and an Alcantara headliner. Xenon head lamps, rear parking sensors and 18-inch wheels are also featured. Additionally, this RS6 is equipped with optional rear side-impact airbags, bringing the total to 10.

Included with the car is the original Audi window sticker, two remote keys, owner books, CarFax history report and thorough service records that date back to 2005. With a fantastic look and 450hp to boot, this RS6 is an attractive alternative to an M5 or E55 at a fantastic price point.

Even at less than 1/3 of the sticker just 10 years ago, we’ve seen examples just as nice for a little less. Still, few AWD sedans can claim the quiet brute force that the RS6 unleashed. My kind of 4-season brawler right here.

Like I have always said the RS6 was the ONLY car that tempted me to sell my E39M5….if it had come in a manual I would have traded in the M5 without hesitation.
the only real scary thing about these is the out of warranty repairs…..I have heard horror stories about simple fixes that run into $$$$ because they were labor intensive
