1977 BMW 630CSi

I’ve said a few times that the prettiest 6-series in my mind are the earliest examples and the very last, mid-88 refreshed cars. But in terms of pure beauty, my vote still goes to the early, uncluttered Bracq design. Certainly the E24 looked much heavier and not quite as elegant as the E9 it replaced, but it has its own character and was a quite handsome design in its own right. The sweeping roof line carries perfectly into the falling trunk, and in front the chiseled headlight panel echoed images of the creatures that would become the namesake of this model – the “Shark”:

This is a true one owner vehicle with original miles which we purchased right here in sububurban Orange County. The old BMW Six Series has been gaining much buzz and popularity over recent years, both on the internet and at various classic & luxury car auctions all around the country. The 1977 6 Series was the original 6 series from BMW which was designed and introduced to the U.S. to replace the 3.0CS and 3.0S/Bavaria in the U.S. in 1977. The creation of the 6 Series was led by the 630CSi coupe, while the 7 series was simetaneously introduced as BMW’s newest flagship sedan. What makes this particulat 630CSI special is the ownership history and extensive service history we have on file. We have service billings from as late as 1978 and all throughout the 80’s, 90’s, and new millenium. We have a true archive on this vehicle which would fascinate even the most disparaging of automotive connoissuers. Aside from some normal dealer mistakes such as the “V6” and “5-speed” (this car should only have 4, unless there was a swap), this is a really well presented car. It reminds me almost perfectly of my father’s first BMW; he had a 1982 633CSi in the same color combination when I was in high school. It was a great car, so pretty and it really made you feel special when we went for a ride. The 630 is a pretty rare model, having only existed for about a year before the 633CSi replaced it; seeing one in great shape is a treat. The wheels, stance and color combination are perfect, and the dealer claims they have the maintenance history; if you’re not bothered by the more sedate performance of the early 6 with U.S. bumpers and are looking for a classic BMW, this certainly looks like a great option. They’re significantly cheaper than a good example of the car they replaced, less expensive than the later 6s and much prettier – at least in my mind – than most of the 1980s and 1990s BMW lineup. I think we’ll see these cars appreciate in the not too distant future.
