1989 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Coupe

I’ve been having better luck coming across classic 911s for much more reasonable cost of entry lately, but what about once we move past those years? Do we find the same with the 964 and 993? That seems more of a mixed bag – though perhaps it’s not mixed at all with regard to the 993 as they remain fairly expensive – but this 964 does seem quite reasonable. Even better it’s up for auction with no reserve. Here we have a Guards Red 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Coupe, located in Illinois, with Black leather interior and 113,045 miles on it. When Porsche debuted its fully redesigned 911 as the 964 with it they debuted a new model: the all-wheel drive Carrera 4. Following in the footsteps of the all-wheel drive 959, the new Carrera 4 provided more dynamically stable driving for the rear-biased 911. Purely in terms of performance and driver engagement I’m not sure it’d be the preferred avenue, but as Porsche has always prided itself on its blend of performance and refinement the all-wheel drive setup was a logical progression in the 911’s life.

Signal Green 1997 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet

Green is a bit of a theme for me this week and though it isn’t always the most popular exterior color on a car, Porsche has offered a few captivating shades that have stood out across the decades. One of those that has been available across multiple decades is Signal Green. Like many of Porsche’s offerings, over the years the color isn’t always the same, creating its own shifting desirability for Porsche fans, so knowing the paint codes and their availability can be a necessity for those hoping to acquire a paint-to-sample 911. On this Signal Green 1997 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet driven just 11,726 miles, we don’t get a shot of the paint code, but it looks like the version of Signal Green that was available during the early ’90s (code 22S), as we’d probably expect to find on a 993. It’s a slightly lighter shade of green than other variants of Signal Green and in the pictures here almost looks metallic (though it isn’t). One thing we can be assured of: it’s a rare color on a 993.

1988 Porsche 930 Coupe

Time for something that’s a bit rare, but doesn’t necessarily seem like it. As I have said in the past, I’ve noticed that dark blues, especially of the non-metallic variety, seem pretty uncommon on late-80s 911s. I rarely see them, even though the color itself seems common enough in general that I feel like I should see more of them. Why that might be, I’m not sure, but I’d guess it just comes down to the popularity of certain colors at certain periods of time, kind of similar to how we don’t see Guards Red nearly as often once we reach the ’90s and later. Here we have one such beast, a 1988 Porsche 930 Coupe, located in Dallas, with 69,217 miles on it, and that the color is worn by a 930 makes it all the more special. We aren’t told the specific names of the exterior and interior colors, but given what was available at the time my guess is that this 930 sports a fairly ubiquitous sounding Dark Blue (Dunkelblau) exterior and a Linen interior. Assuming those colors can be verified as original that will make it a fairly rare thing amongst 930s.

1992 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Coupe – REVISIT

This one definitely seemed worth checking back in on since it’s one of the most eye-catching color combinations I’ve come across on a 964, a model known for some wild colors. Back in May we featured this Amethyst Metallic 1992 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Coupe with Cobalt leather interior and it’s still up for sale. The price has been lowered a little bit (down to $75K) but it’s more or less still priced in the same ballpark it was before. That price is by no means low, but I can’t imagine there are many other 911s out there wearing these two colors. Also, it looks like there are some new pictures in better light and it really helps us appreciate the interaction between the colors. I wasn’t sold on it the first time I featured this one; I’ve come around quite a bit now.

Ribbit! 1979 Porsche 911SC Coupe

This ad starts off in a pretty nontraditional manner by stating that the car is not currently for sale. And maybe it isn’t and only is listed so as to attract people to this dealer; perhaps it’s only for sale in the way in which we might say everything is for sale – for the right price. Either way here we have one of the more unique color combinations we’re likely to come across on a 911: a 1979 Porsche 911SC Coupe, located in Ohio, with a paint-to-sample exterior in VW Scirocco Viper Green along with a contrasting White interior. Oh, and it only has 12,121 miles on it. I think we can see why it might not actually be for sale.
