Irish Green 1989 Porsche 911 Club Sport

With a few of the most prestigious auctions of the year coming up this weekend it seemed worthwhile to see what sort of interesting vehicles would be crossing the auction block this season. I encourage anyone curious about these things to peruse the listings. There are quite a few of the typically fantastic vintage machines and racers from various periods. The car we see here may not immediately attract as much notice since compared with other options it looks quite subdued, but a closer appraisal reveals it is quite special. The 3.2 Carrera Club Sport remains for many the best of the ’80s 911s Porsche produced. As with most companies whose pride of place stems from its racing history, the competition variants tend to attract greatest notice. The Club Sport is no different as it follows in the footsteps of the Carrera RS showcasing both a lighter overall weight and improved performance to provide the ultimate 911 package. The particular Club Sport we see here further distinguishes itself from other examples in that it is said to be the only one produced in Irish Green. I’m not sure if this would be the ultimate paint-to-sample option one could choose for attracting collector notice, but it surely would exist on a short list of very desirable exterior colors.

1980 Porsche 911SC Coupe

Ah, here we are back with a long time favorite. This Oak Green Metallic over Tan 1980 Porsche 911SC Coupe, located in New Hampshire, sits with 141,338 miles on it and looks in nice driver condition. While there are certainly examples of the 911SC that attract collector interest, generally speaking these are the models to seek out when your desire is for a good driver that you can get into for reasonable cost and spend plenty of time enjoying. Its successor, the 3.2 Carrera, tends to attract higher values – not unexpectedly – but the similarities between the two models are such that anyone looking for the classic 911 experience can be just as well served with the earlier SC.

1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Targa

I’m going to move away from ridiculous cars and back to the attainable (and driveable) examples that we all cherish so much. The 964 holds an interesting place in the 911 lineup transitioning from the classic design to the more modern design of the 993. While generally considered the first modern 911, its appearance more closely aligns it with what came before while its engineering clearly had taken significant strides toward what was to come. It wasn’t a much loved model in its day, but the 964 has begun to garner increasing respect and we are always on the look out for interesting examples. The one we have here, a one-owner Velvet Red Metallic 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Targa, certainly fits that description and should make for a really nice option for anyone looking to get into a 964, whether for the first time or as an addition to the stable.

1979 Porsche 930 with 34 miles

This is just absurd. The mileage, the condition, the price. Though interestingly not much is absurd about the color or options. It is in those regards a fairly standard example of an early 930. Here we have a triple black 1979 Porsche 930, located in Cleveland, with a mere 34 miles on it. How it is that a Turbo like this ends up with such low mileage, I have no idea. With unique colors, options, or models I can understand a collector buying a car with the intention of keeping it in such pristine shape. But on a standard black 930 I’m less certain how we get here. Regardless, here we are and even if there’s nothing particularly eye-catching about the color it is still a nice treat to see such a time capsule. Seeing this 930 is hardly different from walking into the showroom when it was new.

1997 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S

These days we’re so used to Porsche producing a plethora of different 911 models that if you can’t find one to suit your needs then you might just be too picky. Or never really wanted a 911 to begin with. A quick trip over to Porsche’s website shows sixteen different variants of the 911 from which buyers can choose and if rear-engine isn’t your thing there are also four different Cayman models. This sort of selection has not always been the case. The 964 began the expansion of model variety, but it was with the 993 that we really began to see the sort of diversity in the lineup we see now. One of those models first introduced for the 993 is the model we have here: the Carrera 4S. The Carrera 4 itself first came about with the debut of the 964, but the S models didn’t make an appearance until the 993 took the stage. Like the M491-equipped Carreras of the mid- to late-80s the Carrera 4S effectively served as the Turbo-look model of the 911 line, sharing the bodywork, suspension and braking of the Turbo, though lacking the Turbo’s whale tail and retaining the standard naturally aspirated engine of the rest of the 911 line. The one we see here is a very pretty Guards Red 1997 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S, located in New Jersey, with Savannah Beige leather interior and 52,894 miles on it.
