1969 Porsche 911E Coupe

I got a good chuckle out of the opening to this ad. “Not bad!” That doesn’t seem far off from saying, “Doesn’t suck!”, but I guess we can at least appreciate the level of honesty. I don’t know that I’d say this Champagne Yellow 1969 Porsche 911E Coupe comes with a bit of risk – I think you’d probably have a sense of what you’re getting yourself into – but it does clearly need some work. It’s not in bad shape though. It’s driver quality, that’s for sure, but relative to a lot of 911E Coupes we see the price does actually appear to account for that quality.

1969 was the first year for the 911E, which sat between the entry-level 911T and the top-of-the-line 911S. The E shared a few features with the S and mostly represented a slightly less sporting version of those highly-sought after 911s. Hydro-pneumatic struts replaced the torsion bars up front and like the S the E had ventilated brake discs. It also shared its mechanically fuel injected engine, though in a lower tuned state: 140 hp vs 170 hp. Still it represented a nice step up from the entry-level T. 1969 also was the year Porsche lengthened the wheel base for all 911 and 912 models. So there are a decent number of first year aspects to this 911 and the color is fairly uncommon.

2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder

I complained yesterday that the Arctic Silver over Graphite Grey color combination of that 911 Turbo S was too bland for such a performance machine. Here we can see a similar exterior utilized to much greater effect. The key is in the details. Well, the details along with one of the best interiors I’ve seen in a modern Porsche.

This is a 2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder. That’s a great base with which to start. The exterior is GT Silver Metallic. I don’t want to parse Porsche’s various silvers and which might be better than which, but this is a fine color for those who enjoy silver. It’s contrasted by Porsche script along the doors and what I believe are White Gold Metallic painted wheels. While subtle those wheels provide a nice shift in color that gives the exterior just a little more style. The interior is where things really pick up:

2005 Porsche 911 Turbo S Coupe

This is a long time favorite of ours at GCFSB even if pricing has moved them beyond what made them a favorite. Nonetheless the 996TT remains a heck of a performance machine and even with values creeping up there is still a lot of value to be found with these cars. To put it simply: the trouble now is that they have begun to creep much too close to the price of a 997TT, at which point I think most will choose the 996’s successor. For those who might prefer 996 styling (I promise they do exist) or for those with some collector interest the final model year of these seemingly unloved Turbos can make for a nice option.

In 2005 Porsche gave us the 911 Turbo S. It was a car quite similar to the previous 996TT when equipped with the X50 Performance package and PCCB. But like with most any Porsche if you put an ‘S’ in the name then it attracts more attention. Numbers were somewhat limited, especially the Coupes. For reasons I’m not all that clear about, most of the 996TTS that were produced were Cabriolets. Many of those were equipped with Tiptronic S rather than a 6-speed manual. So what see here, an Arctic Silver Metallic 2005 Porsche 911 Turbo S Coupe with manual transmission and 47,153 miles on it, doesn’t come around all that often.

Tuner Tuesday: 1989 Porsche 911 Turbo RAUH-Welt Begriff

I’m not sure I know where to begin. There is A LOT going on with this 911 and, in this case, that’s a good thing. I first saw this 1989 Porsche 911, modified by RAUH-Welt Begriff and Turbo Kraft, on Rennlist near the end of last year. It looked great and I actually thought it might sell pretty quickly even with its very high price. It had all the right attributes to attract the right sort of attention for what is a pretty over-the-top machine. Then I didn’t see it for a while so I thought it had sold. Lo and behold it had not sold so this time I wanted to take a closer look.

RAUH-Welt Begriff can be pretty divisive among 911 enthusiasts. Not only are Akira Nakai’s designs pretty wild, but many of his creations entirely consist of cosmetic modifications. They are cars that hearken back to many of Porsche’s early race cars with huge power, preposterously wide rear fenders, and massive wings all designed to keep the rear tires firmly glued to the ground. That sort of design in a road car isn’t always appealing and when there isn’t enough grunt to back up the looks the appeal is lessened further. However, there are exceptions; there are builds that possess the wildness of RWB’s designs AND the power to go along with it. This RWB is one such machine. The claims: 600 horsepower, 2,400 lbs. I don’t think outright performance will be an issue.

2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Here’s the second of my promised yellow 911s: a Racing Yellow 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, located in Bahrain, with 4K kilometers on it. This is a case of coming across a 911 that quickly catches my eye and then as I’m looking it over thinking to myself, “I really don’t see many in this color.”

Racing Yellow obviously is a rather eye-catching color on the GT3 RS. Yet, we almost never see it. We almost never see yellow on the GT3 RS in general. Why is that? Granted, yellow Porsches aren’t the most common to begin with so they’re always going to possess a degree of rarity, but given the wide variety of brightly colored examples of the GT3 RS we see I am surprised more of them aren’t yellow. There was the beautiful Signal Yellow example I featured previously, but nothing in this much brighter version and still that’s only one other. There almost certainly are more, but how many?
