Feature Listing: 2003 BMW 540i M-Sport

The E39 BMW 5 series. Few mid-sized luxury sedans have come as close to perfection as this car. Handsome styling and a great balance between performance and luxury were these cars’ hallmarks and to this day, you still see plenty of them on the road, racking up significant amounts of miles. There was a plethora of models available to even US customers in both sedan and Touring guise, but it was the V8 engined sedans, particularly the M5 that captured the attention of enthusiasts. While not an M5, this 540i M-sport that comes to us from our reader Jagjit carried a lot of the cues people loved about the M version of the E39.

A new acquisition requires me to clear out space in the garage. Thusly, I am forced to part with a car that was deemed to be part of my “permanent” collection.

The 540i is up to date with all service. Full documentation of history. Only Genuine BMW parts have been used for the maintenance of the car. I am a 20-year BMW CCA and Porsche CCA member and take meticulous care of all my cars.

This car served as summer transport for both myself and the previous owner. It has been stored during the winter months (by myself and the previous owner) on a BMW Battery Tender. The 540i looks, smells, and feels new.

The 540i drives incredibly well; extremely tight. Authoritative acceleration and sublime handling.

No modifications. No abuse. No accidents or body work (except 3M clear mask with warranty). Always adult driven.

Full disclosure: There are minor rock chips on the front end of the car from normal driving and the stereo display is missing a few pixels.

More pictures available upon request. Serious inquires only.

As much as I bang on about wanting manual gearboxes in everything, I’d be perfectly pleased with this automatic 540i. Given the M5 of the period was not available with an automatic gearbox, this is about the closest thing you’ll get to an E39 M5 without the third pedal. If you’ve been thinking about buying a 540i M-Sport, this is the kind you want to get. Owned by someone in both the BMW and Porsche clubs, full documentation and kept very tidy. Yeah, I still haven’t shaken that E39 bug and this car makes me want one more than every.

Is it selfish to want my daughter to buy this?

these cars are cheap to buy but can be $$ to maintain (i have an e39 msport). this is an aggressively priced car, albeit with relatively low miles. Just a suggestion for the seller: a short write up on fixes and maintenance recently done would do a lot for your cause…

good luck to seller, she’s pretty
