Holy Smokes – Twin Turbo Dinan 850i

January 4, 2010 by Ben

My last post was a pristine, low mileage BMW 850i that I referred to as the “Great White Shark of the road”.  What we have today is a Great White that has been pumped up with HGH steroids – a 1991 BMW Dinan Twin Turbo 850i.

With just over 30,000 miles this crazy 8 is finished in factory original “Calypso” red metallic over bone leather interior.  The Dinan twin turbo setup raises the stock horsepower rating from 296 to 520! Torque is doubled from 310 to 620.  The owner says the Dinan Turbo package cost him over $30,000 and he has available printouts of all the Dinan specs on this setup.

At $28,891, this Turbo 8 is nearly half the cost of the last 8-series I posted and with the help of the two snailshells under the hood you’re getting a much heavier dose of power to propel this 2 ton beast.  It seems like a no-brainer from a comparative point of view but 28 Large is still a big chunk of change to spend on an almost-20-year-old Bimmer that’s very pricey to fix and maintain, especially in turbo-guise.

What do you think?

Perfect for the Toyota Supra / turbo JDM fan who really wants a BMW and twice as many cylinders.
