MK II ’92 GTI in Showroom Condition

January 13, 2010 by Aaron

Over on the Vortex I found another clean VW for sale.  This 1992 16v GTI looks as though it just rolled off the showroom floor.  In a day where tasteless modifications have become more common the stock condition of this car is a breath of fresh air.  The stock head unit, P700 rubber, and upgraded BBS RM wheels speak to the lengths the owner has gone to keep this car looking stock.

1992 GTI 16v..MINT for sale

“My other ad was not written very well, lots of issues with photobucket, edits, etc…This will be the official for sale ad, with better detailed pics…
1)mileage is 108,680
2)4 owners from new
3)full documentation including service records, and original papers from day 1
4)this car is a complete no excuses car, everything works as should
5)paintwork is oem minty clean, perfect Recaro interior…ONLY BAD IS ONE BBS RM IS SLIGHTLY CURBED….
that being said, i am fairly firm on my price of $8500 usd…I know exactly what blue book value is and i dont care. Its been preserved for 18 years, and used only as a second car, and i want to keep it that way.You wont find a cleaner 16v on the market with better documentation than this car.”

Is this car worth $8.5K?  If any MKII GTI is this would surely be it.  The low miles, near mint condition, and rarity of the vehicle could bring that price.  However, this car deserves more than some grainy photos and a cryptic description.  If this car is as nice as it looks I would like to see a complete description and some clearer photos.  Either way, best of luck to the seller of this wonderful car in rare condition.

$8.5K is a lot, but the 2.0l 16v’s are the best driving VWs ever. This is the last car made before the cars became pigs.

Would I rather drive a 16v GTI than a clean E36 M3? 10 years ago, I would have said no. Today, though, it’d be a tough choice.

I agree Patrick. These MKII GTI’s are wonderful to drive. The styling has held up over the years and they are pretty darn reliable. Examples like this are becoming increasingly more difficult to find. The seller started at $9.5k so perhaps his asking price will move downard a bit more.
