On the way to work the other day someone in a new Tesla Roadster wooshed by me. I say woosh as a Tesla, or any electric car for that matter do not come with the throaty exhaust sound accompanied by traditional petrol consuming vehicles. While I see the benefit of an EV, the design of the Tesla left me cold.
Which got me to thinking, how about an electric Porsche Boxter? As it turns out there is an outfit by the name of ACE Conversions that can build an EV out of virtually any car. From the looks of their site, Porsche cars are a favorite.

While I would miss some of the little things of a traditional gas consuming engine I would not miss going to the gas station or getting fiscally abused by my mechanic. $49k sounds like a lot of cabbage but it is roughly half as much as a new Tesla roadster. There also be some tax benefits to going the EV route, check with your accountant for details.
Bravo to ACE Conversions for adding some appeal to the Electric Vehicle that has been sorely lacking in the standard offerings that have been available over the years.

If it has lead acid batteries, it is no Tesla. I’d want to know about crash testing too. I made Electric cars in the late 70′s . (Marathon Electric Vehicles). They were slow and impractical then…Same as today really. It seems all this talk of the EV, is always followed by the need for a subsidy. I think those days of borrowing from China to ultimately buy their product should be about over by now. Back to the topic. The maker has very little useful tech info on their site, so I remain a skeptic about this ones performance claims. Give me Gas till we run out!
I agree additional details would be helpful. But, from a styling perspective I would take this over the current offering of EV vehicles all day.
Meh.. What a waste of a Boxster S and money. This is just the rich person equivalent of chopping and lowering SUVS with 22′s. No benefit to the environment when you add in all the true costs of the batteries etc..
