My 2006 VR6 GTI, '04 T-Reg, and '07 Rabbit were fairly reliable by VW standards. But each of them had nagging issues. The constant breaking of the window regulators or check engine lights in the GTI. The brittle interior of the T-Reg, and the overall poor quality of the Rabbit. For the premium that VW prices their autos they do not produce a quality product. My luck has not been as bad, per se. After dealing with an absolutely horrendous 2000 VW GTI 2.0 liter, this did not surprise me. Also, I have never come close to touching a VW product in the past decade with a 10 foot pole. I looked at used V8 Touaregs this summer and was amazed how poorly they are aging. However, I would be willing to overlook a ton of cosmetic issues with the TDI.
