Another 87 Mercedes 190 2.3-16 For Sale with Only 44k Miles!

It must be deja vu I think as I don’t believe this is the same car that was listed before on this blog. But here’s another very low miles 2.3-16 for sale on the left coast in Berkley, California for $11,500 (Craigslist):

Mercedes 190 2.3-16 For Sale

quote from seller’s listing:

This incredible 190E 2.3-16v is in impeccable original low-mile condition, and has had dealer service since new. For the last five years it’s been in the hands of a Northern California Mercedes Benz dealer family. This is not only a high performance car in great condition – it’s also an important bit of history. After developing its four-valve cylinder head with motorsport specialists Cosworth, as well modifying its suspension, transmission, aerodynamics, exhaust and interior, Mercedes unveiled the 2.3-16 at the Nurburgring in 1984 in a race that included several former and future Formula One champions, including Niki Lauda, Alan Prost and Ayrton Senna (who won), as well as Stirling Moss, who had famously driven for Mercedes in its heyday.

Most 16v’s available today are high mileage and/or modified cars. This one shows and drives as nearly new, to which we can attest as this is our third (our first having 17,000 miles on the odometer when it came through the dealership in 1989). 2.3-16′s were only available in the U.S. in only 1986 and 1987, and this `87 may be seen as an appealing “interim” model. It has the flushed-in headlights of the ‘87 models, but retains the simpler and more reliable sunroof and sunroof control of the `86 cars. Recent work includes a major service with upgraded-spec MB factory injectors; serviced rear SLS suspension and replaced front suspension ball joints; refurbished a/c; and four new Michelin Pilot tires. A December 2009 smog report shows unbelievably low emissions, attesting to the car’s impeccable mechanical condition. The bodywork is straight and clean with no signs of accidents or repairs. The original paint is very good for a 20-plus year old car, with good shine and few stone chips.

I love these cars! And not to sound like a broken record, but an e30 M3 of the same vintage would have a starting bid of twice the price. I realize you can make an argument that the M3 has a more sporting intent, and the winning pedigree, but not at twice the price. Someone go snag this fantastic deal!

1985 Mercedes 190 2.3-16 For Sale1985 Mercedes 190 2.3-16 For Sale1985 Mercedes 190 2.3-16 For Sale

quote from eBay listing:

This is the one! Anthracite gray with black leather interior, 5-speed manual with the higher horsepower, higher compression european spec engine. 75k miles and very tight. Very good to excellent condition throughout.

Yes, this is a 1985 model and that means it was produced for the European market and imported here. In the case of the Cosworth 190E, this means that this car has higher horsepower (185hp vs 167hp), torque and compression ratio.

This is a really nice example of a very desirable and collectible car. This is not a show car, but it certainly is in much better than average condition and has a relatively low 75,000 miles on it. It is probably too nice to take racing — even though it is a race car — but could make a great base for a project street car. Or do like me and just drive it! I have driven a lot of Mercedes in my life and this is the only one that really feels like a sports car. It’s nimble handling, high revving Cosworth engine and great exhaust note make this car a blast to drive. Please come buy it before I get into trouble!

• 75,000 Miles
• Five-speed transmission
• 4-cylinder 2.3 liter engine

I like the opening bid of $8000 and the honesty of this listing. While not quite as nice as this example posted a while back, the combination of European specification, recent respray, and very good miles, make me think this is a great example for an enthusiast. I wish I was in the market right now, I’d bid!

1997 Porsche Ruf CTR2 Sport for Sale at SunsetClassics.com

1997 Porsche Ruf CTR2 Sport for Sale1997 Porsche Ruf CTR2 Sport for Sale1997 Porsche Ruf CTR2 Sport for Sale

quote from their website:

We have an exceptional Yellowbird Yellow 1997 Porsche Ruf CTR-2 Sport for sale. This RUF was the fastest production car in the world in 1997. This ultra rare Porsche Ruf CTR2 Sport ranks right up there with Ferrari’s F50 and Jaguar’s XJ220. The CTR2′s air-cooled engine whips out an impressive 580HP with 0-60 times under 4 seconds, and a blistering top speed of 217mph! There were only 16 of these street legal super cars made from 1995-1997 so this is obviously a really rare chance at owning a piece of automotive history. Not to mention it is one wicked car to drive.

This is the fastest car I’ve ever ridden in, and we didn’t even juice it anywhere near its full potential. This particular car was featured in the February 1998 issue of European Car magazine when it was owned by the previous owner Steve Beddor. This car has only 8k original miles since new, a beautiful sounding Blaupunkt stereo system and looks to kill. You are looking at a very fine investment opportunity for any Porsche enthusiast – and one fun sports car that craves some hard driving.

Not much needs to be said here. An opportunity like this doesn’t come along very often, and it’s appears to be titled! The real deal, not a conversion, and has only 8k miles. I’ve always said that I think the 993 series was the last of the real Porsche 911′s and this one is the ultimate tuner car of it’s generation. Sure it’s a Powerball fantasy for most of us, but if my ticket hits, this guy’s phone is going to blow up the next day! Make sure to click through and check out all the images they have and bunch of videos too.

1987 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16 Euro in Vancouver, Canada

krmb-07

I usually try to avoid posting forbidden fruit like this European specification 2.3-16 in Vancouver, but I can’t help it. This one is really sharp looking and has the awesome houndstooth interior. Check out this 1987 Merc 190 2.3-16 on Vancouver Craigslist for $11.9k:

quote from seller’s listing:

1987 MERCEDES-BENZ 190E 2.3-16 EURO 5SP MANUAL, 185HP. 165K kms. If you are reading this add, you will know what this is. It has been owned by a enthusiast – all the usual and required updates and repairs have been done. No rust! New Brakes, Suspension, steering components etc, all done. Fully inspected and serviced. Rare!!

Suppose that is $11.9k US dollars, seems like a fantastic deal considering the obvious condition of this car. If CAD dollars, even better, snag it for $10.5k! Of course you’ll either have to pony up the serious coin to federalize this car, or put it in storage for 3 years until it passes the 25 year rule.

Mercedes 2.3-16 For Sale: How Does Black on Black and 44k Miles Sound?!

“Hell Yes!” is what I thought the first time I blogged this car on my old blog. The car is available again and is currently on eBay:

1987 Mercedes-Benz 190-Series 190E 2.3-16 For Sale in PA on eBayMotors

quote from seller’s ad:

[...]

I have only owned the car since March 2008, driving 3,500 careful miles during that time and keeping it garaged. Due to a growing number of drivers (five) in my family, and a limited stable of vehicles, the 2.3-16 faces being pressed into daily-driver duty, to include wintertime. This car is too beautiful (and tricky on ice & snow, I would imagine) to have that occur, so I will instead seek a good home.

My car (previously owned by an automotive journalist) was featured in a February 2007 Automobile magazine article (“Second Hand Thrills”) comparing, contrasting, and singing the praises of the 2.3-16 and the original BMW M3. He had owned it for three-plus years, kept amazing records, and treated the car with upmost care. I have continued the meticulous care and careful record-keeping, although my primary entries onto the spreadsheet that he created have been fuel mileage (20 mpg city; 26+ highway) plus an oil change and a recharging of the A/C.

Strengths: Starts immediately, cold, warm, or hot, and idles & revs as intended. Clutch and shifter work perfectly, and there is no sign of synchro wear. Steering is precise, with no wandering or vibrations through the wheel. Brakes are excellent by any standard, and tires are as-new. Interior features perfect wood, completely crack-free and unblemished dash, leather seats in like-new condition, all lights & gauges in working order (even the factory-installed digital stopwatch) and climate control operates perfectly. Power windows, mirror (right side only; left side is manual), sunroof, and stereo/cassette fully functional. Body is completely straight, paint is excellent, and all aero pieces are in place and properly aligned.

[...]

These cars are only gaining in value and the negative’s the seller notes are all very minor. With only 44k miles, someone could snag a great potential investment. Or a car that is begging to be driven!

Good luck with the sale Matt!

1986 Mercedes 190 2.3-16 For Sale in Seattle: Black on Black

If I had half a brain, I’d buy this myself. 2.3-16′s aren’t as valued as e30 M3′s, but they’re clearly gaining value as a result of the surge in values related to those M3′s.

quote from eBay listing:

You will find that this car is not only beautiful but also has excellent racing pedigree. Latest articles/videos (in the past 12 months) on this car seem to indicate that its increasing collectability level is gaining momentum. Sports Car Market’s 2008 Price Guide (printed in Winter 2007) prices this car between $10K-$16K and showing an increase of 13% in the past year. At the rate collector cars are increasing, I would not be surprised if the prices have gone up a bit more during 2008. Just for comparison, I believe there are two 16V models for sale on ebay right now and have buy-it-now prices at $15K.

This particular car looks well looked after with a maintenance binder, original parts included, and appropriate upgrades like European lighting. For $13k, this looks like a sharp buy with a hard to find color combo.
