2008 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG

If you say “aging twin-turbocharged V12 engine” to any sane car person, they’ll probably reply along the lines of “You couldn’t give it to me for free.” They probably wouldn’t be too far off, but it all comes down to expectations going into something like that. Is it going to be cheap and easy? Probably not. Is it going to be a total disaster of Maserati Biturbo proportions? Hopefully not. In all seriousness, the Mercedes-AMG M275 engine is about the best you can ask for in terms of what they made and how much reward you get from it, which is 604 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque. Much to everyone’s surprise and now delight, these engines have been proven to be anything but a rolling disaster. However, does that mean it is worth rolling the dice on one when the price becomes attractive enough? Let’s take a look with this 2008 with an impressive 80,000 miles on the odometer.

2008 Porsche 911 Carrera

As much as I am a sucker for paint-to-sample Porsches, I’m also just as big a sucker for good deals. Combine the two, and well, I’m very close to clicking the always tempting “Buy it Now” button. Today’s car almost has me there.

This is a 2008 Porsche 911 Carrera in paint-to-sample Zanzibar Red with black sport seats and my favorite “lobster fork” wheels. It also brings bi-xenon headlights, a sunroof, and climate control buttons that aren’t worn down to the bare plastic. I need more space.

2008 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG

For every bland S-Class that Mercedes-Benz produces to lease to some eye doctor in Ocala, Florida, every once in a while they’ll mix up something special for the ones in the know. Today’s 2008 S65 AMG is one of those. This is a “Designo Graphite Edition” that I did not even realize existed and probably wouldn’t believe either outside of seeing it listed on the window sticker for a cool $9,765. What is it? Graphite paint, Corteccia and Charcoal AMG leather, a heated steering wheel, matte natural oak wood trim, and an Alcantara headliner. All in addition to the loads of goodies that already comes standard on a 2008 S65 AMG. Add it all up and you’d find a sticker price when new of $210,265. Bonkers.

2008 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet

Did you really like the 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera S in Anthracite Brown from a few weeks ago? Need even more brown? Boy, do I have the car for you.

This is a 2008 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet finished in Macadamia Metallic with Macadamia Metallic wheels, a Cocoa soft top, and a Natural Leather Cocoa interior. That should cover all of it, literally. I’m almost disappointed they didn’t paint the calipers brown as well. All joking aside, I think the result is fairly reasonable looking. You are correct if you guessed it was also ordered with the Tiptronic gearbox, but that is what you deal with when looking at modern 911 Cabs. So is there just too much brown, or is it just unique enough?

2008 Porsche Boxster RS60 Spyder

For the past 20 years or so, Porsche hasn’t been shy about the special editions. Most of the time they pick the non-911s as it is easier to be a little be creative with the models. This special edition, the 2008 Boxster RS60 Spyder, was made to commemorate their victory at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1960. The car used there was the Porsche 718 RS Spyder, which is suppose is an ancestor of the current Boxster, or at least Porsche wants you to imagine that. Just 1,960 units were made in a unique GT Silver Metallic exterior over a Carrera Red interior that was intended to match the look of the 718 RS Spyder itself. There was some other special trim as well as a sport exhaust, which raised output to 303 horsepower. Values have been surprisingly strong believe or not, and they don’t seem to be getting any cheaper. Worth it?
