Last Minute Lazy Sunday Deals Mercedes 500E

It is Easter and there are a number of auctions ending today on eBay that may get missed as folks are traveling or spending time with family.
I thought I would post a few up to get them some attention before they disappeared. So this will be post #1 of 3 quick ones.

1994 Mercedes 500E with 68,000 miles, which is fairly low for the Porsche engineered engine. Buy it now is $25,000.
I’m not sure if this one has appeared on the site before, I don’t think so, but I am almost positive I have seen it for sale before. It is clearly one of the nicer 500Es out there. This one looks really well maintained and original. The pictures back up the seller’s statements about the condition. Perhaps one of the nicest original driver 500Es left on the road.

Cash for Clunkers Weekend Reading

You may remember my “spirited” post over the Cash for Clunkers program a little while back.

Well as a follow up here is the official government list ofย  cars sent to their deaths through the program.

Of note are the 63 BMW 6 series cars, including 13 635csi models, a 850i, a M3, and a M5.

Mercedes suffered as well, can you imagine over 100 560SEC s crushed? That is literally tons of usable parts from one of the greatest Benz engines gone. Looks like 11 Merc V12 engines also have made their last trip. No wonder parts are so expensive. A pair of AMG cars, a C36 and a C43, were sent away too and gasp a 500E.

A number of high end Audi models also are on the list and a sprinkling of Porsches.

Most surprising, though not German, on the list is the 1997 Bentley (listed as a Rolls Royce) Continental R and great oogley moogley a Buick GNX, listed under ASC. If that was a true GNX it could have been rolled and burned and still probably brought more than the CFC allowance.

Post your thoughts or interesting finds after you peruse the list.

Two Great Mercedes 500E cars For Sale: One for $26k and one for $9k

First up is this beautifully photographed Mercedes 500E that has covered under 70k miles! Take a look at this example offered by Landmark Motors in Kirkland, Washington for $27,000, found originally via Craigslist:

quote from seller’s Craiglist post:

Considered a classic, even by those within Mercedes-Benz, this rare and spectacular 500 E is the Super Sport version of the W124 and is a cooperative effort between Daimler-Benz and Porsche. Every aspect of this car is special and only 1505 of these made it to the United States. Hand-built by Porsche in Zuffenhausen, it took a full 18 days to complete each car. It luxuriously accommodates four in all-leather seats by Recaro which are heated in front. The engine is derived from the 5.0L twin-DOHC V8 M119 with 326hp. The suspension is sport-tuned and self-leveling and the car rides on the original, and special, MBZ Sportline lightweight alloy wheels. All that came to the U.S. were fully-loaded as is this example. This is a 2-owner CARFAX clean car with no damage history, only 62K miles and is completely original. All service records and books are included and the 60K service has just been completed. Uncommon and in uncommonly fine condition, this 500 E is going to make someone very happy

I find the asking price a bit eye watering to be honest. It looks fantastic and there are very few with that kind of mileage. But it’s not 7k miles, it’s 70k. High teens, low twenties seems more appropriate to me.

At the other end of the spectrum is this sharp looking driver for $8950 in Georgia:

quote from seller’s Craigslist posting:

As for mine, it has been meticulously cared for. It was owned first by a retired Army general, then by an editor of a British Mercedes-Benz enthusiast magazine (living here in the states).

1993 Mercedes-Benz 500E For Sale in Hawaii

The Mercedes 500E was the top of the line in the Merc E series W124 range. But that’s really an understatement when discussing the 500E. It is a very special car that was actually engineered and built in collaboration with Porsche. It is easily distinguished by it’s wider wheel arches and low, chunky stance.

The owner is listing the car on VWVortex for only $14k
. In addition to a nice history of the model, lots of photos, and all the reference links, he also lists standard shipping cost to common ports in the U.S. ranging between $1-2k dollars.

The pictures look pretty good, but you know, I think this would best be inspected in person so you could make an excuse to hang out in Hawaii for a couple of days ๐Ÿ˜‰ Good luck with the sale Brodie!
