If you felt that the 1998 Porsche 911 Turbo Ruf Conversion we featured last month was too pricey, it remains available and the seller has now lowered the car’s price $6,000 to $68,888. There were a lot of people interested in looking this car when we originally posted it, and now it’s a little more attainable. Sure seems like a pretty good deal for a lot of car!

Last week, we reviewed a beautiful white 1998 993 Twin Turbo converted to Ruf Turbo R specifications. They say lightning never strikes twice, but Ruf has never been one to listen to convention or limitations. Surely the most elite of the German tuners, Ruf automobiles demand a premium over their already expensive Porsche cousins. However, there is a difference in the market between a car with an original Ruf build certificate and one that has been converted by the owner. This example looks cracking in silver, and like the white car is not an original Ruf car but a converted example.

Of all the 911 generations that have come and gone, the 964 is probably my favorite, blending the classic profile with some nice smoothing out touches such as modern bumpers and updated wheels. This is an interesting 964 version, and rare. There were only 20 Turbo S models with the higher horsepower 3.3 liter turbo flat six and this is one of them. Interesting then, that someone decided to modify such a rare car with a later, factory slant nose conversion.

As rare as this 911 is, the modifications just don’t do it for me. The 18″ wheels jack the stance up way too much and the front end conversion is questionable. While the price is certainly in line with similar 911 Turbos of the vintage, and the mileage is good, this car is a classic example of messing with perfection.…
I like to find ads for cars where the owner claims the car is the best of its kind around. Lots of times that isn’t true, sometimes it causes another similar car to come out of the woodwork to prove the owner wrong. In this case we have a 1989 Porsche 911 Turbo Convertible with a 5 speed, Number 423 of 600 produced. The owner’s says “in this condition and color combination, this one is the best you will and can find.” What do you think? The owner must think so judging from the high start price.
The car has some nice upgrades that were done at the time of the initial order at Brumos Jacksonville, 3.3 liter, 330 HP, twin plug engine, Turbo S exhaust:

You have to be a collector to want to pay $60,000 for this 56,000 mile car. The car has points that would appeal to a collector, great all original condition, all books and tools. Still that $60,000 would go a long way towards other Porsche vehicles of this era with similar miles and performance. The car is listed for sale at 60,000 Euros on another site, which would be even more expensive.
Despite the upgrades, clean history and numbers matching aspect of this Porsche I just don’t see someone paying that much. It does look nice though.

I got a note from a reader asking for help in locating a Ruf transmission for his Porsche 930:
i just did my engine i upgraded to a ruf 3.4 twin plug on my 1988 930 turbo i was running the stock 3.3 but i had some bolt on power such as a k 29 turbo and a kokelin inter cooler and b&b exhaust with headers i love my upgrade but as you know the weekest link is the stock 4 spd transmission my engine wants more i am very serious on a ruf 6 spd transmission i can not locate one please help me porsches forever its in our blood thank you

Just arrived at RUF Auto Centre is this impeccable 1991 Porsche 964 Coupe with a RUF RCT conversion.
This particular car was sent over to the RUF factory in Germany for a “complete” RUF conversion.
The original 964 was completely disassembled at the RUF factory, the body shell custom painted, interior recovered in full leather, engine conversion installed, transmission conversion installed, etc.

Our RUF / Porsche trained technicians have given this car a thorough inspection and have found absolutely no issues.
A really rare opportunity without question. But only serious collectors are likely to get excited considering the $69900 buy-it-now listed on the ad.
Offered here is an stunning example of a widebody RUF BTR. This example had a full conversion done in 1987. It was built to stage III specs (475 bhp). The conversion included new RUF 3.4 liter BTR motor, Ruf 5-speed transmission, RUF front oil cooler (requires Ruf front spoiler), and exhaust. All body modifications (boxed rockers, slotted rear fender ducks, and RUF front spoiler) were also done at the same time. Paint is original from that time on.
Car is in mint condition, with only 36,874 miles. Car runs great. Everything including A/C works perfectly. Paint is 9/10. Interior is 9/10. Tires are brand new with ony 100 miles on them. All service is up to date. Very few 930’s, let alone RUF’s, left in this condition.
These cars a VERY rare. Less then 100 are believed to have been produced. Ruf’s are the most collectable of all Porsches. This will only appreciate in value over the years.

What an outstanding car! The BTR develops 374hp, which for it’s day was astonishing. That’s a full 92hp more than a stock Porsche 930, which is no slouch in it’s own right! While most are familiar with the RUF Yellowbird ‘CTR’ model featuring 475hp(!), the BTR is just as rare and probably a fair bit easier to live with.

This car is not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but for those who grew up in the Miami Vice era reading VW & Porsche will know what makes this car a standout. This auction recently ended with no sale at $20k, and a buy-it-now of $48k.
This great Turbo sets itself apart from all of the others due to it’s Strosek body kit, white gauge faces and Racing Dynamics wheels. A very striking look indeed!!
This car isn’t perfect, but this combination of original Strosek and Racing Dynamics aftermarket pieces are difficult to source today. $50k seems pretty high for a car with 60k miles, pitted bodywork, and stained interior. But this car could really serve as a childhood fantasy car project to rebuild or enjoy.
