I’m going to move now to the other side of the 911 Turbo spectrum. Away from ultra-low mileage air-cooled Turbos to a water-cooled model with some miles on it. I’ve been looking around for better values among these cars, something that has become increasingly difficult as has been evidenced by a few of my recent 996TT features. Most of those I see with lower prices are Tiptronic. If you’re fine with that, then there’s plenty of choice. But I want to keep searching for the more desirable manual-equipped versions.
Here may be just one such beast: a Carrera White 2002 Porsche 911 Turbo, located in Georgia, with Natural Brown leather interior and 76,985 miles on it. I’ll say from the start that even though the asking price is sub-$50K it’s still a good bit higher than what we used to see with these Turbos, especially those not equipped with the X50 performance package. But it’s a much more reasonable price than the low-mileage cars we’ve seen and the condition looks good.

This great looking 996 Twin Turbo comes in a very desirable and highly sought out Carrara White, which bares the the nickname “Unicorn” among the Porsche enthusiasts.
The white exterior is beautifully matched up with a Brown Leather Interior, that is complimented with factory correct Sport Seats. The interior is in phenomenal shape and every instrument and gadget works.
Performance wise, this car is an absolute beast, and the Turbo effect is immediately evident.
The car has been maintained with no expense spared, and there is a big stack of records that come with it. The latest service conducted in March, 2017, consisted of a new clutch assembly, a Dual Mass Flywheel, an oil service, and brand new Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Also installed, was a 997 Short Shift Kit. (The original shifter mechanism comes with the car.) It is important to note that in 2015 the car received a new rear spoiler assembly, and the wing works flawlessly.

“I would like to share my personal observations about the 996 Turbo’s! The engine was designed by Hans Metzger, probably the best Porsche engine designer ever. Mr. Metzger designed the engines for my Porsche factory team cars that we won the 2000 American Le Mans Series with. They were absolutely bulletproof, enabling us to win 10 out of 12 races. We also won the European Le Mans Series in 2000. The 996 Turbo engines are not the same design as used in the normal 996 911’s. There was a intermediate shaft bearing problem with those cars and some have thought the Turbo’s also had a problem. Not true, Mr. Metzger’s engines feature a totally different design. Serviced properly, they will provide many hundred’s of thousands of miles with spectacular performance.” Dick Barbour.

I don’t have specific production numbers, but I don’t see very many White 996 Turbos so there may be decent rarity to this one. The interior seems to be equally as rare. Given that collector interest won’t be very high that rarity shouldn’t be of great significance except to those who are fans of the colors. For those people this Turbo makes for a nice opportunity. The natural leather interior and sport seats make for a couple of nice options as well. All in all a good looking Turbo that is said to be well documented. If it comes through with a good PPI and its service history looks good, then for $47.9K it should make for a very fast option.
