1995 Mercedes-Benz E320 Cabriolet

I hate to be cliché, but the facelift W124 Cabriolets are aging very well. It is safe to call them classics now, honestly modern classics, but still old enough to rent a car at the airport. The square handsome lines will never be offensive or jarring, and the quality is nearly unmatched. Even compare it to the same model year Rolls-Royce Corniche, and you’d be crazy not to pick the Mercedes. That has been keeping prices stable for as long as I can remember and it doesn’t look like they are going anywhere. This 1995 up for sale in Arizona is nothing but blue over blue on blue. I think I like it that way.

1994 Mercedes-Benz E36 AMG Cabriolet

Update 5/7/19: This E36 AMG Cabriolet sold for approximately $36,000.

RM Sotheby’s is going all-in on their Youngtimers Collection auction on April 11th in Essen, Germany which features 85 cars from the ’80s, 90s and 2000s that will make your heart bleed. As much as I’d like to go through all of those cars, because believe me, there are some gems, I’d thought I would pick one or two to take a closer look at. Today’s car is a very rare 1994 Mercedes-Benz E36 AMG Cabriolet. This car was originally delivered to Luxembourg of all places and is reportedly only one of 68 W124 E36 AMG Cabriolets ever built. It is painted in one of my favorite colors, Malachite Green Metallic, and has everything you could want from a 90s AMG car. How much is this predicted to hammer for? Quite a lot. I guess I’m not the only one drooling over this car.

1994 Mercedes-Benz E320 Cabriolet

Some of my favorite cars as one-off or special builds that you rarely ever see for one reason or another. These builds usually happen because of a special connection with the brand, most often thanks to spending a ton of money, that let you have certain modifications when ordering a car to be built. Some brands are pretty friendly and open with this kind of stuff while other brands will give you nothing and you’ll like it. Mercedes-Benz has always been very hush-hush with their special requests for customers so most people usually turn to aftermarket turners like Brabus or Renntech if they want something really special. If you do somehow get some special treatment from Mercedes, it usually isn’t found out about until the car comes up for sale because the kind of people who get special treatment from Mercedes don’t post about it on internet forums or Instagram. Today’s car, a 1994 E320 Cabriolet, is exactly that. Although this car has a long history with a little bit controversy as well. Get comfortable.

Feature Listing: 1995 Mercedes-Benz E320 Cabriolet

For as long as I can remember, the sign that one “made” it was a Mercedes-Benz, and specifically a convertible one. Sure, if you wanted to go fast you bought a Porsche, and if you wanted to go in the snow you bought an Audi – or if you wanted to do what everyone else on Wall Street did, you bought a BMW. But there was a royal air about Mercedes-Benz models that the others couldn’t really capture. Perhaps it was the long and storied history of one of the most significant automobile manufacturers in the world – a car company that had been selling the best cars in the world to the stars since the 1930s. Perhaps it was the incredible build quality of many of their models; cars not designed to a price point, but to an engineering standard unsurpassed anywhere in the world. Or perhaps it was just simply that the cars Mercedes-Benz managed to make you feel incredibly special, incredibly pampered and yet not be ostentatious or overstated. In truth, it’s probably a little bit of each, and few cars embody this combination of qualities quite as well as the W124 Mercedes-Benz did. You could have economic diesels, versatile estates, sporty V8 monsters, or enjoy the limitless sky the cabriolet version offered you:
