Paint-to-sample 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet – M491

This 911 will take some work to get our heads around. There are a whole host of interesting details to this car, but also plenty of questions. Let’s start with the basics of what we’ve got and then we can get to the questions. This is a 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet with a paint-to-sample exterior and interior to sample. Those points on their own are of some significance, though we must admit that while these colors may be special order there isn’t really a lot that is special about them. Don’t get me wrong, the burgundy interior is great and the exterior is a nice shade of metallic paint, but if you didn’t tell me they were special order I wouldn’t have immediately thought that. But we don’t end there. It also has sport seats, which are a nice addition, and more importantly comes with the M491 Turbo-look package. As if all of that is not enough, attentive readers will also notice that it’s a Turbo-look package with the spoiler delete. That last point is perhaps the most important aspect of all as the Turbo-look with spoiler delete is very rare. We almost never see them and on the Cabriolet especially it makes for a really attractive change. Combining all of these options creates a very rare 911 and one that should attract a lot of attention. If it can all be verified….

1983 Porsche 911SC Targa

This almost seems sacrilegious to say, but I’ve found myself frequently attracted to some silver 911s lately. Not all of them, but a few have crossed my path and I have really enjoyed their look. The only caveat is that the attraction seems limited to classic 911s as there hasn’t been much from the 964 and later that has caught my eye in silver. The car we see here is one of those that’s attracted my gaze: a Pewter Metallic 1983 Porsche 911SC Targa, located in California, with 51,641 miles on it. Properly speaking this isn’t silver so perhaps I could rationalize it that way. But it’s close enough! Anyway, it is the details of this 911SC that make it even better. It appears to be very well documented and cared for throughout its life and the seller has provided ample description and abundant photos to address most issues buyers may have. I wish more cars were sold this way.

1979 Porsche 930

Take a beautiful blue car and place it next to the ocean (or any large body of water) and I will be attracted to it like a moth to a flame. It is a combination of color and environment that really speaks to me even if there is a certain monochromatic quality to the entire presentation. As should now be obvious my attraction to this 1979 Porsche 930 was kindled through just such an arrangement. The sky, the waves, the car. It all looks so inviting. Of course, once you’ve strapped yourself into this 930, fired up the engine, and attacked the local coast road the experience then takes on an entirely different dimension. That’s right where my mind is transported after taking in the still photos. It’s the total experience captured in a single photograph.

1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa

I am going to continue my current theme of rooting around for driver quality classic 911s so as to establish a firmer grasp on where we can expect these models to sell on the current market. I’ve seen a lot of the earlier examples of the 911SC and where they are being priced and here I want to move to the other end of the spectrum to look at a late 3.2 Carrera. The price is higher, as we’d expect, but remains somewhat reasonable given other facets of this 911. Here we have a Marine Blue Metallic 1998 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa, located in California, with Grey interior and 119,250 miles on it.

1963 Porsche 356B Carrera 2 Coupe

When we feature the Porsche 356 the point isn’t typically about performance. And, in a certain way, it isn’t about performance here either. But like the Speedster and its lightweight no frills philosophy the 356 Carrera 2 brought with it a more performance-oriented mindset and in its day was very much so about performance. The Carrera 2 featured a larger 2.0 liter flat-4 four cam engine producing 130 hp, which gave it a significant boost in power over its 1.6 liter siblings. Add to that disc brakes at all 4 wheels and you had better stopping power to rein in those extra horses. These were a technologically sophisticated model that provided Porsche’s customers with some of the best performance available all the while sporting the same elegant curves of every other 356. The one we see here comes in the particularly wonderful color combination of Oslo Blue over Tan.
