2011 Mercedes-Benz S600

I love flagship Mercedes-Benz and all their uniqueness that they bring. From last weeks Adenauer to today’s car, a 2011 S600, I enjoy all of them. (Except the W220 S600 with the 5.8 V12, that thing is garbage.) This W221 up for sale in Texas has everything you’d expect a flagship Mercedes to have with its radar guided cruise control and 510 horsepower that does 0-60 is 4.5 seconds. On top of all the normal goodies, this S600 has the extra special designo interior option. Problem is, I don’t know if I’m in love with it.

2006 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG

Something always brings me back to the M275-powered Mercedes-Benz cars. Is it the 603 hp and 738 lb·ft of torque? Probably. But something else just draws me to these mid-2000s rocket ships on wheels. I love the conservative styling with just a touch of aggressiveness like the quad exhaust tips and 18-inch twin-spoke AMG wheels in gunmetal gray. Just when I think I’m ready to dive in headfirst with one of these beasts in a business suit, I turn and run the other way when I see what it takes to live with one. This 2006 S65 AMG for sale in California checks all the boxes when you looking for one of the cars. Including a recent repair bill that will question how it is it possible that car repairs cost that much.

2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 S Estate

The company that built the fastest station wagon in the world … is back with the new fastest station wagon in the world. Mercedes-AMG took the updated W213 E-Class Estate and did their magic to the tune of 603 horsepower along with 627 lb-ft of torque. Big power numbers are impressive enough, but it’s the 7:45.19 Nürburgring time that really gets me excited. That’s the same time that the Pagani Zonda S 7.3, Audi R8 5.2 and the 997 Porsche 911 GT3RS. Just to top it all off, this is the same vehicle that has semi-automated driving, brake assist, evasive steering assist, car-to-X communication and remote parking. It’s hard find a thing that this AMG monster doesn’t do well. But of course, this all comes with a price.

2006 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG

Earlier this year I looked at a 2005 Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG and pondered how cheap it would need to be for me or you to take the risk on. Ultimately, at the $17,495 the seller was asking still wasn’t cheap enough for me to even think about buying the car. 603 hp and 738 lb·ft of torque be damned, $17,495 is still $17,495 to me. Today, we have the brother of the CL65 for sale in New Jersey, the S65, and guess what? It’s cheaper than $17,495. How cheap?

Dolomite Brown 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 S AMG Estate

I never tire of rare and unique colors. Combine that with a rare and unique vehicle? Even better. This is a 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 S AMG Estate in the color Dolomite Brown Metallic. Sometimes it looks brown, sometimes it looks purple and even at the right light you might even mistake it for a burnt orange. Either way, I love the color. But I don’t exactly love it on this car. Let me explain why.

2004 Mercedes-Benz CL600

Earlier this week I checked out a green V12 Mercedes-Benz. Keeping with that theme, I bring you another green V12 Mercedes-Benz — although this one has quite a bit more horsepower and even more torque. This 2004 CL600 with the 5.5 liter twin-turbo M275 V12 spit out a more than adequate 493 horsepower and 590 lb·ft of torque. What is even crazier is that Mercedes sandbagged the horsepower number by about 40 to 50 as to not cannibalize CL55 AMG sales. Of course, we as humans can’t leave well enough alone, so a quick call to the crazy Danes at Kleeman took these power numbers to a whole other level.

After a good year, I think it’s time to move on from my much enjoyed CL. It’s definitely the quietest, most comfortable car I’ve ever driven. It has 62,000 miles and has been well maintained and always garage kept. I wasn’t sure what the previous owner had done for maintenance, so within the past 5000 miles it’s had;
-The transmission fluid and filter changed
-Coolant flushed
-ABC fluid and filter change
-Power steering fluid and filter change
-New spark plugs and insulators
In terms of repairs, it has had a few.
-New water pump
-Rear valve block repair
-Shifter after it got stuck in park
-Replaced Bose amp with a new one
-New auxiliary cooling fan
This car is in absolutely beautiful condition, the Everest Green paint has a depth you wouldn’t believe. The green paint and tan interior are a classic color combination you just don’t see enough anymore. As far as faults go, the car has only two. The soft close on the driver’s door doesn’t work, and neither does the lock button on the exterior handle. The extra power from the tune has done nothing to disrupt the cars docile nature for daily driving, and only makes itself known when you put your foot down. For those occasions, the 625hp/700lbft makes this among the very fastest cars on the road. Between it’s beautiful but reserved design and it’s quiet nature, the performance comes as a complete surprise to anyone who doesn’t know these big beauties well. This is among the best kept on the market, originally a Florida car, it’s in excellent condition inside and out. I’m asking $20,700. You can see the Carfax here, although they got the number of owners wrong. It had one primary owner and the dealer who bought it at auction drove it himself for a while, and then there’s me. Feel free to ask me any questions.

According to the seller, the Kleeman ECU tune bumps the power to 625 horsepower and 700 lb·ft of torque. All this out of a car that can give you a gentle massage on your drive to work in the morning. That’s the beauty of these cars, you can be as docile as you want driving these cars and never be burdened by trying to keep that much power under control. Yes, if you smash the gas pedal you better be prepared to run into whatever you have the car pointed or light your rear tires on fire. Although it’s not all mayhem as the (functioning) ABC system does a great job of keeping everything in line and when pushed to the limit and you truly appreciate it when you fully need to utilize it. What’s interesting about this car is that it’s in the rare Everest Green, which if I had to guess there can’t be more than a handful of them in CL600 guise. Inside, the tan interior looks like it’s held up fairly well for being in the W220/W215 family and doesn’t show much wear at all.

Buying one of these cars is all about condition. You can grab a rough one that needs coilpacks and is flashing ABC messages at you the second you come near it for the low-teens all day. But that is a really fast way to blow a ton of money or be left with a car that can’t function. Ideally you find one that the owner didn’t cheap out on, much like this one, and stay on top of the maintenance and repairs diligently. You can’t ignore problems in these cars or you will ruin something that’s very expensive. For a little under $19,000, this is a great way to get your 700 lb·ft of torque fix that doesn’t require you to hold on tight every time you tap the gas. But I can’t say it enough times, the W215 is a fickle beast that needs constant care, so proceed with caution.

This is a beautiful piece of art on wheels. The car is amazingly fast yet still comfortable to drive everyday. The car was the only car to be painted this color yellow at the factory. It has been well cared for and garage kept in air conditioning. All maintenance has been regularly done at the dealer. Also included are the wheels that were taken off. They were custom painted to match the car. They have some age on them and will need to be repainted. If you want them they will go with the car.

The person who ordered this car is the same kind of person who goes to the self-serve frozen yogurt place and gets all the toppings just because they can. It wasn’t enough just to spend the $185,000 on the basic car (which isn’t particularly basic). It needed the Ferrari yellow paint, a set of aftermarket wheels and to top it all off, a trip to RENNtech that resulted in a bill of $50,000. Judging from the sellers description, this SL65 has the R3 Performance Package which gets you 700 horsepower and 900 foot-pound of torque. That $50,000 also got you a handful of carbon fiber parts and another set of wheels for good measure.

I don’t know what to make of this car. On one hand, it is extremely fast. The 0-60 time creeps into hypercar territory without the multiple six-figure price tag. On the other hand, there is a reason why yellow wasn’t a factory production color. It feels like everyone on this SL65 had to be “touched”. The owner couldn’t leave well enough alone. All the badges had to be black, the taillights needed to be smoked, all the silver trim was painted and even the corner markers were blacked out. Of course all of this is just my personal taste and it probably suits the wants of some people out there. At an opening bid of $40,000 you are getting quite a value but fair warning, you’ll be paying Ferrari service prices to go along with the Ferrari paint.
