Motorsports Monday: 1976 Porsche 911 Carrera/DP935

The last few cars I’ve written up have involved a little detective work. To be honest, it’s something I really enjoy about writing for the site. And generally what we learn is that you can’t always take a seller at face value. No surprise there, right?

But that doesn’t mean that the car in question isn’t neat in its own right. Today is a great example of that. We have a racing 911. It’s air-cooled and it has many wings – associations that nod towards the late 1970s and early 1980s, when the 935 program was Porsche’s cutting-edge race technology. And it’s in one of the more iconic liveries of the period – the pastel green of Vaillant sponsorship associated with the Kremer brothers.

Is all as it would seem?

Tuner Tuesday: 1986 Porsche 911 Turbo DP 935

Ah, the DP 935. It’s a car that in the world of Porsche generates both enthusiasm and enthusiastic hatred of the modifications. There’s no denying that they were one of the more spectacular modified Porsches in the 1980s, though, and while Duran Duran seems to be playing in my head everytime I see one, I nevertheless love to find them. We last looked at a blacked-out and modified 1986 DP 935 almost exactly a year ago. Today’s model, like the all-black model from last year, is not 100% correct or the full-crazy European-spec slantnose, but the U.S. spec toned down package that retained the original bumpers. Also like that car, this example has non-original wheels and an engine rebuild/refresh. Is it the one to buy?

Tuner Tuesday: 1986 Porsche 930/DP 935 – REVISIT

Darth Vader, your car has arrived. One of my favorite cars that I wrote up for “Tuner Tuesday” was the crazy all-black DP935 back in August. The car has moved sellers and is now available on Ebay. A reserve auction this time around, the opening bid price has climbed with reserve still on from the original $109,500 to $124,900. While there are much better photos of the car this time around, nothing else appears to have changed making those some pretty pricey pictures. Still, this is a fun car to look at, so enjoy the darkness!
