The 1987 Porsche 944 Turbo isn’t the most desirable model year, but this one looks nice in Guards Red over Linen leather. While it’s a TMU car, there’s a healthy bit of recent service history and the overall presentation looks like a nice driver. The TMU and 1987 build status should keep bids down, but the auction is no reserve. It will be interesting to see where a 944 Turbo driver ends up!

It’s a strange world we live in when you can ask close to MSRP for a 25 year old car and it suddenly seems reasonable. But that’s the case with this 1992 911 Turbo. Technically, it’s a no reserve auction with a $95,000 Buy It Now, but a single $85,000 bid would win it unless the seller ends the auction early.

I’ve expressed my love for the W210 E55 AMG before. I think they are one of the best value Mercedes you can buy. It’s still relatively fast even by 2017 terms, it’s not too ugly and most importantly it won’t bankrupt you in an afternoon. I can’t think of a reason I’d ever want to sell mine as the values have been staying pretty stable and given it’s rarity, it might even creep up in value a little — at least I hope. So when I came across this low-mile 2001 for sale in Virginia, I had to take a closer look.

For sale is my mint condition 2001 Mercedes E55 AMG. The car has 46,394 miles and is brilliant silver over two tone. The car has never been in any type of accident and wears brand new Hankook tires on all four corners. The wheels are the original 18″ staggered monoblock style with absolutely no curb rash anywhere. This vehicle is truly like new. The pixels on the dash all work and the leather is free from the wear you typically see on these cars, especially on the drivers side side-bolsters. The headliner is in perfect condition and does not sag at all. The paint still gleams like day one and has been garage kept it’s entire life. The car is free from any signs of rust from top to bottom. This car drives like a dream, perfect in every way. Transmission shifts perfectly and smoothly, engine is strong, reliable, and powerful. The AC and heat work great as well as all electrical devices on the car.

The W124 500E/E500 was a tough act to follow, but Mercedes-Benz stepped up to the plate well with the new AMG collaboration W210 E55 AMG. The M113 power plant generated an impressive 350 horsepower and 391 lb.ft of torque – more than had graced that legendary W124. In its own way, the E55 AMG became a legend, too – subtle looks offering a velvet wrapper on one hefty hammer. So when it came to replacing it again in the new W211, AMG was forced to turn the dial up a few more notches. It was forced because the market had moved on, and the W210’s power output was no longer competitive in the early 2000s. So forced it was, as in forced induction. The M113 now featured an IHI supercharger, and power increased dramatically. This was no small step for man, this was a giant leap for Mercedes kind. The W211 E55’s power output leaped to 469 hp and it now 520 lb.ft of torque. Of course, it needed those numbers because the competition from Audi in the 450 horsepower twin-turbocharged RS6 and the outgoing benchmark BMW M5’s 400 horsepower S62 V8. Going nuclear on the power level meant AMG needed to upgrade the rest of the hardware, as well. Airmatic adjustable suspension with sport tuning gave the hefty E55 poise in the bends, while 14.2″, 8 piston calipers hidden behind huge split 5-spoke AMG wheels with 245 and 265 section tires kept grip and speed in check. The results were palpable: in a 2003 Car and Driver comparison against its nearest rivals, the new E55 AMG simply outpaced everything in a straight line. 0-60 was dispatched in just 4.3 seconds. 100 came only 5 and a half seconds later. The quarter mile was done in 12.5 seconds. Forget sedans, those were numbers that challenged the Corvette Z06 at the same time, and close to a decade and a half later are still very impressive:

I usually don’t think twice when I see a Mercedes with a ton of miles on it. But I started thinking a lot more than twice when I saw a W211 E55 AMG with over 400,000 miles for sale. As I started digger deeper into this wunderkind, the story got even wilder. This E55 had a single owner its entire 400,000 mile life and managed to get into two accidents in that time with one severe enough to deploy the airbags. So obviously this W211 for sale outside of Chicago deserves a deeper look, so let’s try to make sense of this one.

I love the W210 Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG ­— so much so that I bought two of them. I still have one and gave the other one to my father because he, too, loved it so much. He drives his everyday in all the elements, while mine stays tucked away in the garage under a cover and doesn’t come out unless the pollen level is under a certain limit and no one on my street is cutting grass. You can probably guess what kind of condition both cars are in by now but that’s indicative of the chassis. AMG or not, you were going to get out of the W210 what you put into it.

The W210 E55 is a special car. It’s the last AMG built before they started going crazy with Airmatic suspension, SBC brakes, superchargers – the list goes on. The W210 a simple equation: big engine, big brakes and big wide tires. Yes, you still got all the special edition stuff like different bumpers and side skirts, exclusive seats, steering wheel, gauge cluster and some wood that the non-AMG cars were left without. In addition to these special goodies, you got a chance at some options that you probably didn’t even know existed on the W210. That’s what kind of E55 we have for sale today in Dallas. This car has boomeranged to them with a little bit more miles but presenting just as great as it always has. The E55 AMG Estate needs no introduction here at GCFSB. It’s remarkable that Mercedes-Benz still offers a go-fast E-class Estate in a marketplace that demands vanilla offerings at every turn. But they have bravely carried on through the years, offering this bonkers five-door to us for a decade now. Along with the Geländewagen and AMG GT, this populates the cool corner of the current Mercedes lineup. However, not everyone has around $100,000 to spend on a new family speed machine. This E55 AMG offers a solution around that fiscal sticking point.

Fast wagons are perhaps one of the most cultish of vehicle genres to date. There are those like me who have disdain for most SUVs and realize there are alternatives to moving your stuff around. As a single person without children, minivans are overkill for my demographic. It was Jeremy Clarkson who was quoted as saying a minivan signals to the world that “I’ve done my breeding. I’ve served my biological purpose, and now I’m waiting to die.” So ruling out a small van, where is one to turn for their hauling needs? How about Mercedes-Benz? Unlike Audi, Mercedes-Benz has not given up on a segment in the US market which it began to popularize decades ago. There are still loyal fans of the five-door variant of the E-class, now on its sixth generation if you count the W123 T-modell which started it all. Luckily, Mercedes-Benz has been kind enough to bring AMG tuned variants to a market with otherwise vanilla tastes when it comes to family cars. Today we’ll look at two very similar looking but different beasts, the E55 AMG and E63 AMG estates, both wearing the same shade of Graphite Gray Metallic for sale for sale from the same dealer outside of Philadelphia.

Truth be told, I’ve never really liked the look of the W210 E-class all that much. The design has always struck me as bloated and unflattering, the automotive equivalent of a blancmange. But all is forgiven in the case of the E55 AMG. With the addition of a subtle bodykit, 18″ monoblock alloys, lower-profile tires and a dual exhaust, the wobbly W210 is transformed into something else altogether. Squat and purposeful, the car suddenly takes on the character of refined menace, like a nightclub bouncer in a tuxedo. Performing its everyday duties, the E55 will ferry you and your passengers vast distances in quiet and spacious comfort with surprisingly little fuss. But mash the peddle and you’ll find a generous reserve of power on call to propel you quickly into license-losing territory.

This car for sale in Florida has nearly 95k miles on the odometer and, being a Designo model, presents in an unusual and attractive color combination.

To level the playing field slightly, all are automatics. While that may cause some of you to groan, they make up for a lack of manual with distinctive styling, plenty of power and rarity that will set you apart from the crowd. I’ve written up a couple Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG wagons in my time with GCFSB; even got fooled by a E500 doing a damn good AMG impression on one post. I don’t know what it is about this car that keeps bringing me back to it. I’m not really much of a Mercedes guy. I prefer my fast wagons wearing four interlocked rings. However those three letters found on the trunk (and unfortunately the license plate frame) always catch my eye and earn the car a second glance.

Maybe that’s what I like about these souped up mid-aughts family haulers. If you don’t know what to look for, you don’t know what you’re looking at. That could be said of many wagons with a ferocious power plant but in the case of the E-Class I think it is particularly true. With its country club profile, dopey four headlamp front end and lengthy rear you could be forgiven for thinking these cars were nothing special. I suppose that until they’ve heard the supercharged V8 at wide open throttle most folks wouldn’t think it is, even after you point out the thick AMG steering wheel, quad tip exhuast and AMG wheels. That’s fine as far as I’m concerned, more E55 AMG wagons for those of us in the know. After all, these are rare cars that were only sold through a direct to your driveway order process. It appears that this example which was delivered to Woodland Hills, CA has remained in excellent condition over the 72k miles it has covered so far. The question is, has it been so well cared for that it necessitates the $31,500 asking price?

When I first came across this listing I thought I had found an E55 AMG Estate at an incredible bargain, but after reading through the details (and a heads up from out trusty editor in chief) I found that this car is in fact an E500 wearing big brother’s name tag. I’ve seen E500 AMG Sports before but not ones doing a full on E55 impression. At first I was annoyed and was going to skip writing it up but then after thinking about the rarity of the Dark Green over Tan color way, the great sound of the AMG exhaust hooked up to any V8 and the low mileage, I decided this car deserves a helping hand in its search for a new home. The seller notes that it had  “very interesting prior ownership” and while that may sound ominous to some, I’m actually quite curious to know what it means. Maybe this was a Mercedes Benz exec’s weekend warrior, maybe the previous owner was a celebrity or maybe the car belonged to Guy Fieri. Hard telling not knowing I suppose, though I highly doubt it was the last option, I don’t think Dark Green is his color.

The other day I wrote up two S6 Avants, one of which was a nicely presented lower mileage example. However, the asking price on that particular car – nearly $20,000 – had me questioning why you would select the C5 S6. Now, I’m a huge Audi fan, and 340 horsepower is certainly nothing to sneeze at – but for about the same money, I suggested that the E55 AMG Estate was perhaps a better bargain. That’s because the W211’s M113 supercharged 5.4 liter V8 churned out a simply staggering 470 horsepower and 520 lb.ft. of torque – and that was stock, with a warranty. Unlike the Audi, it was channeled completely through the rear wheels. And if anything, the W211 E55 AMG managed to look both really special, really understated and super aggressive at the same time. It signaled the passing of the torch from Audi to Mercedes-Benz for the mega-wagon market (at least, in the U.S.) and remains a seriously potent bit of kit which is available today for only a fraction of its original purchase price:

The Mercedes-Benz 500E is a car which needs no introduction to the fans of GCFSB. We feature the model on a regular basis; as one of the most popular super-sedans produced by Mercedes, we’re always glad to see a very mint condition, low mileage model and hopeful for a steal when we see less pristine examples. The possibility always exists that one will sneak in at a cut-rate – a model that has higher miles and a small list of needs, for example, that will allow for a more reasonable purchase price. But as we pine and search for values on the 500E/E500 market, ironically we seem to ignore the model which replaced it in spirit; the E55 AMG. Part of that comes down to both the real and perceived gap in quality between the W124 and the W210 chassis; however, what is undeniable is what that equates to in the real world. Find a not-perfect, higher mile 500E today and you’ll be looking at around $10,000 or more while a mint condition, low mile E55 AMG is available for around the same amount. Which is the better proposition?

One has to wonder how the product planning session went when Mercedes-Benz green lighted the E class AMG estate. Was management on holiday or did someone lose a bet? Whatever the case, the appearance of the E55 AMG wagon was a definite curiosity when it appeared in US dealers, even in very limited numbers. Who bought these cars? Power hungry soccer moms? Dads who were ticked off they had to surrender the sports car? Parents who couldn’t bear the thought of something that so obviously screamed “I give up?” Whatever the reasoning, there are now a few of these high-powered V8 expresses circulating on the used car market. This sleek silver number is for sale from the same dealer who brought you the E320 Coupe from last week.

AMG models underwent an interesting adolescence when they were absorbed into Mercedes-Benz properly. At their birth they were the wild child, making bad boys out of unassuming Benzs by adorning them with spoilers, giant wheels and larger than life motors. But then there was a calming period when Mercedes started offering AMG wheels and body styling on basically every model, making the late 1990s and into 2000s hard to identify a true AMG from the run of the mill cars with big wheels. Since then, AMG has truly blossomed into a full-blown psychopathic anti-social Prius killing Frankenstein maker, but the cars of the early 2000s were more subtle and fly much lower on the radar. One of the best examples of this is the original E55 – a car outshone by both it’s father 500E/E500 and the ubiquitous M5. Consequently, a smart buyer can pick up one of these Autobahn masters for not much money. Today’s example is a perfect case in point:

I spent almost a year looking for the best, low mileage W210 E55 AMG I could find. And found it a few months ago, but sadly a house purchase required far more cash then I expected. So after selling an Alfa, a GTI, I now have to sell my AMG. The car is amazingly clean, and looks as good in person as it does in the photos. Underneath, inside and under the hood all are clean and show how well maintained and pampered this vehicle has been. The exterior and interior of this car are very impressive.
