1997 Mercedes-Benz SL320 40th Anniversary Edition

In a sea of seemingly never ending R129 Mercedes-Benz SLs for sale, every once in a while a rare model will pop up that offers a nice change of pace. One of them is the 1997 SL320 40th Anniversary Edition. As just a reminder, Mercedes decided to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the SL with a special edition SL320 and SL500. All painted in Quartz Blue Metallic, the 6-cylinder SL320 is more rare with only 250 examples produced while the SL500, those all painted in Crimson Metallic, had twice as many built at 500 units.

Today, we have this example with 50,000 miles up for sale Central Pennsylvania that looks the part, but I think maybe this is a case of the seller not knowing what they have.

1993 Mercedes-Benz 300SE

We’ve come a long way in the past 30 years when it comes to cars. Arguably the best car in the world at the time, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, offered everything in terms of quality and functionality – but you had to pay dearly for it. Now almost 30 years later, you get all that plus a host of autonomous-like driving features in a basic family sedan. Such is the march of time and progress, but we still like to take a look at the cars that created the trend – and this W140 is the perfect candidate.

1994 Mercedes-Benz S320 Hearse

Some days you just don’t know what you are going to stumble across. This is one of those days. What we are looking at is a 1994 Mercedes-Benz S320 that has been converted to a hearse. Now believe it or not, this is not the first time I’ve looked at an S-Class hearse, as there was a 560SEL I checked out way back in 2018. That one was setup for Japanese Buddhists, while this W140 seems to be more of a traditional hearse without the scaled down Temple constructed on it. However, judging by the decor and stickers on the car, this most certainly also came from Japan where it saw some use. Cool! But what would you even do with it?

1994 Mercedes-Benz SL280 5-Speed

Hey there. This is something different. What we have today in a 1994 Mercedes-Benz SL280 up for sale in the heart of London. If the car being a 5-speed manual didn’t raise your eyebrows, how about I tell you it is actually left-hand drive as well? According to this dealer, the car was originally delivered to Monaco, which probably explains why it only has 35,000 miles. However, a quick check of the UK MOT shows consistent tests starting in 2005, so this one was booted from the beautiful ̶t̶a̶x̶ ̶h̶a̶v̶e̶n̶  vacation spot long ago, probably for being far too plebeian. Naturally, my gear were immediately turning seeing how this would be an ideal import to the US. However, once I saw the price, I threw in the towel rather quickly.

1993 Mercedes-Benz 300CE

Hug your W124s, treat them well, because they aren’t getting any younger and the surely aren’t making any more of them. As the years grind on, the W124 Mercedes-Benz, especially the coupe, seems to make more and more sense to me. A stately design that isn’t trendy or offensive in any way. The proportions are correct and is it is utilitarian as much as it is styled for the sake of looking good. Inside, everything you need, nothing you don’t. The closest thing for a screen you’ll get are some 8-bit readouts on the radio and temperature display. Under the hood, either the trusty M103 or M104, depending on the year. The 1993, like the one we have here today up for sale in Florida, is a one-off specification for 1993 as it has the pre-facelift body, but the 3.2-liter M104 as opposed to the older 3.0-liter M103. Want the updated engine but like the pre-facelift body? Here ya go.
