The W210 Mercedes E-Class represents one of the first times I started seeing M-B as capable of the bruce I knew so well from their Bavarian counterparts. The sport-edition E430 certainly looked the part with some slick 5 spokes and near-AMG body kit, but the real beast of the litter- subtly aggressive on the outside and packing tire-roasting torque on the inside- was the E55. Now, some may scoff at its 349hp, 5.4L V8, but realize that we live in the most golden age of horsepower wars. Though it even gave up some power to its contemporary M5, the tides were reversed when it came to torque, making this a true muscle car from the great Hammer tradition.

This one comes in clean silver, showing off the well-shaped hood and clean lines front to back. It has 133k miles and a less-than-descriptive listing so it could use a thorough pre-sale inspection, but it looks to be in good condition inside and out and is priced at a mere $10,000. For 10 grand, you’ve got your own German ape-in-a-business suit, ready to spin those AMG monoblocks and look classy doing it.

Frankenstein E30 M3/LS1

I found this monster V8 swap E30 on eBay with a ridiculous $40,000 price tag.

The Tasmanian-like S14 motor was replaced with a beefed-up 2002 LS1 Corvette engine and new 6 speed manual Camaro transmission. Based on the mods to the LS1 horsepower is easily doubled which is great for the straights. But the M3 was never about drag racing so the big downside is the 50+ pounds of extra weight and the disruption of what many say to be a perfectly balanced sports car.

I’m not a big fan ripping apart classics like the E30 and dumping GM go-fast parts into them. If you MUST do it, at least stay in the Bimmer family and use a S50/S52/S54.

A few of the things that the owner got right are the EVO rear wing and front splitter. Also, I love BBS wheels on anything so the 18 inch RCs are a plus in my book.

Silver 2001 M5 with BBS RGRs on eBay

As I sit here with a beautiful 2001 M5 to share with you, I try to think of what I can say about this car that hasn’t been said before on GCFSB.

Stunningly handsome…”we know, just look at it!”
Incredible performance and handling…”duh”
The ultimate expression of BMW…”is there an echo in here?”

I guess all I can do is give you the break down on this Bavarian favorite.

It’s a 2001 with 87K on the clock. Looks extremely clean inside and out and there are no known problems. Sounds good so far right? This is where “us” connoisseurs can get picky. Modifications. Some would say the M5 is best left completely stock. I do admit to loving the stock E39 M5 wheels to death but I think the BBS RGR’s really set this car apart. The Kelleners Sport exhaust is, in my opinion, by far the best sounding M5 exhaust on the market and trust me; I’ve watched just about every Youtube “M5 exhaust” video out there. Other nice upgrades are the Dinan CAI, HID fogs, short shifter and adjustable suspension. The only things on this car that I’m not crazy about are the ACS splitters and the “Powerchip”. Take a look for yourself.

As of now, the bids are up to $17,200. My guess is the reserve is somewhere in the high 19′s/low 20′s. Regardless, it’s a beautiful car that I know all of us love and wish to own. Enjoy.

Any Weather 2004 Audi S4 Cabriolet

B6 S4’s are dropping in price and that makes me really happy. The AWD V8 Audi has always been a car that I’ve had on my short list for next vehicles to own and the lower the prices go the higher it will sit on my list.

This 2004 example that I found out in California is a clean black on black Cabriolet. Generally I would go with the sedan over the Cab but with all this warm weather over here in Boston, I love the idea of some top down cruising. This black beauty has just over 76,000 miles but the Fidelity warranty will cover it for another 24K. The owner has put some money into replacing the stock Bose system with MB Quartz speakers, Pioneer flip out screen and a Kicker sub for some bump in the trunk. $16,000 gets you a great year round vehicle with V8 performance that can handle icy back roads while also giving you the wind-through-your-hair experience.

A very low-mileage Audi V8 Quattro is up on eBay with 20 days left at a Buy-It-Now or Best Offer price of $6500. This was the predecessor to the A8, offering a 3.6L 247hp V8. Weak by today’s standards, but not too shabby in 1990. It was also the only full-size sedan with AWD at time and came with a galvanized body, so rust shouldn’t be a problem.

I think the big selling point here is the extremely low 41k miles. It’s no Ur-S4 or S6, but $6500 for a fun, big AWD sedan is not too bad at all.

The idea of stuffing a big V8 into a small sedan has always sat well with me. Here’s a great example of what I’m talking about.

In 2005 Mercedes decided to ditch the blown 3.2 L V6 living in the C32 AMG in exchange for the 5.4 L V8 out of the W210 E55. 362hp and 378 lb-ft of torque will generally produce clouds of white smoke in any size automobile. In a small sedan like the C-Class it also equates to 0-60 in less than 5 seconds.

Depreciation has hit these Hot Rods pretty hard, 2006 MSRP was somewhere around $55K. 4 years and 56,000 miles later, KBB believes this 06’ AMG should fetch almost 22K. Luckily for the buyer, the owner is only looking for a measly $18,000!

More proof that big things can come in small (and affordable) packages.
