2011 Mercedes-Benz E550 Coupe

I don’t write about a lot of newer cars because honestly, I think outside of a few models, they are all pretty boring and soft. Today’s car, a 2011 Mercedes-Benz E550 Coupe, isn’t exactly the most exciting car in the world and it certainly isn’t all that rare. It is rather fast though with 382 horsepower that will get it to 60 mph in the high four second range. But that isn’t why I wanted to check out one of these. It isn’t necessarily what this E550 Coupe is, but rather what it isn’t.

2014 Mercedes-Benz C300 4Matic Sport

3

To be honest, I heaved a sigh of relief the day I sold my 2007 Mercedes-Benz C230 Sport. I felt as if the compact executive sedan was becoming too ubiquitous for the upwardly mobile in my area, especially those wearing an Audi, BMW or Mercedes badge. To this day, I’m happy with the choice I made to buy a used 2006 MINI Cooper S, as it still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. A few months back, while on a business trip to South Africa, my father called and informed me he traded in his W202 C280 for a 2014 C300 4Matic in Dolomite Brown Metallic, like the car we see here for sale in Texas. I didn’t give much thought to the W204 C-class when it replaced the W203 C-class shortly after I bought my C230 Sport. Given that the W205 C-class has a turbo four-cylinder engine, lack of start-stop override and a navigation screen that looks like an iPad slapped on the dash, it has me eyeing these late model W204 C300s with their 3.5 liter V6 a bit more closely.

2009 Mercedes-Benz C300

I was rather surprised when I got a call from my father while on business in South Africa telling me that he had sold his trusty 2000 C280 for a 2014 C300 4matic. Almost 17 years on, that W202 was practically a family member at this point. But, as they say, all good things must come to an end. So this W204 marks the ninth Mercedes to pass through the Henriques household. Curiously, it was built at Mercedes’ East London plant in South Africa. So between my penchant for Western Cape wines and this Mercedes, we’ve been doing our part to fly the South African flag. Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika, then.

When the W204 debuted in 2008, you could specify a 6-speed manual in the US market. This option would disappear after the 2012 model year due to a low take rate. But for the more sporting driver, these manual transmission equipped W204s make for an interesting alternative to the ubiquitous 3 series sedan.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series Coupe

C63 1

The year is 2012. You really want a W204 C-Class. But not just any C-Class. You see dozens of them on your morning commute. How about the AMG? Yeah, that’s better. But still, a C63 is a little too plain for you. Too common. You need the C63 AMG Black Series Coupe. You walk into your Mercedes dealer and plop down over $115,000 and walk away with one of the most unique and sinister C-Class’s ever made. If that is what you are thinking four years later in 2016, then this C63 AMG Black Series Coupe for sale in Minnesota is ready to go.

2009 Mercedes Benz C63 AMG

Funny how the passage of time works when it comes to the automotive world. It seems like just yesterday that I looked at the C63 AMG as a completely unattainable car, the kind of ride that only Euro club bros with frosted tips and too much of dad’s money to spend would be be able to afford. However, thanks to our old friend depreciation, the smallest AMG worth owning is under the $30k mark, good news for those of us without a Scrooge McDuck vault of money to swim in.

$30k is the high mark for what I would consider a reasonable amount of money to spend on a car give or take a couple grand. These days you can get a whole lot of car in this price range, 1st gen Cayman S, E90/92 M3 and of course this lil hot rod from Stuttgart that houses a hand built motor. While I’ve long been a bigger fan of the M3 because of the availability of a 3rd pedal, a C63 AMG sedan always turns my head when one rolls by. Sadly they’re often piloted by people who should probably have the keys taken away, for their safety and the well being of the car. This example down in Texas has made it 86,199 miles, still looks quite fresh and I hope someone with a real appreciation and respect for the powertrain takes it home.

Motorsports Monday: 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series

Let’s be honest; when thinking of tire shredding, redline rattling track weapons, Mercedes-Benz does not immediately come to mind. After all, Mercedes-Benz is more often associated with luxury – the type of luxury that petrol heads more or less immediately rip out of their track-bound cars. This is a bit strange, since on paper Mercedes-Benz is one of the most storied racing firms. Since their beginning, the company has been deeply entrenched in racing and is just off celebrating what many consider the crowning achievement of racing; a Formula 1 double championship with complete domination. But be it F1, Prototype racing, Touring cars and even the occasional rally, Mercedes-Benz has been there. When it comes to the road, though, they don’t seem to have many track-ready weapons. That is, of course, until the C63 AMG Black Series launched:

2008 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

Right near the top of the list of car that will cause me to lose my license, the C63 AMG is one car that I could really get myself in to trouble in.  I had the opportunity to drive one in my brief career as a valet, and this car scared me.  Even though the 6.2L is detuned for the C63, with only 450bhp compared to the 500bhp offered in other models, it’s still enough to give the driver perma-grin.

This Steel Grey Metallic, on Grey leather C63 for sale in Dallas, TX is simply stunning.  With AMG seats, navigation, and power everything, this car has everything I would need in a sports sedan.  The styling on these cars is spot on, it’s juut enough to let you know that the car is serious, but not so much that it’s obnoxious.

This rare and exquisite C63 is in excellent condition inside and out. The New body style Mercedes C63 AMG Sports Luxury Sedan combines cutting edge styling, safety, luxury, exhilarating performance, technology and unmatched build quality. Many have considered the New body style C63 AMG Model to be the ultimate high performance sedan ever built.

This C63 AMG offers a spacious cabin, plush leather trimmed interior, an abundance of comfort and convenience options and a super responsive 6.3 Liter DOHC V-8 engine. The quality and craftsmanship of the build is exceptional; no wonder Mercedes has earned a timeless reputation for quality, elegance, performance and cutting edge styling that shadows all other car manufacturers.

The exterior is finished in a smooth and glossy Steel Grey Metallic complemented with a super clean and fresh Grey/Black Leather Interior. The exterior is in excellent condition and the interior is also in excellent condition; super clean and fresh. This C63 AMG is Super Sharp! This color combination is beautiful; you cannot go wrong!

When it comes to sports sedans, or any car for that matter, I’m generally more attracted to cars with manual transmissions, I just plain like it better.  In this case, I think it’s a good thing that it has the paddle shifting 7-speed, because it would be just too tempting to leave every stop light in a cloud of smoke.

The pricing on this car is quite reasonable, and at $37,950 it’s almost $9,000 below retail.  While this may seem like a bargain, the buyer should keep in mind the added cost of gas, and tickets.  Because if they’re anything like me it will be tough to resist mashing the throttle at every opportunity.
