Tuner Tuesday: 1983 Porsche 930

The Porsche 930 is an absolute icon, and for some time in the 1980s it was the centerpiece of the tuning world; countless examples underwent questionable modifications and died an early death in the eyes of many. But some also underwent changes that made them icons in the automotive world. Notably, the Ruf modified cars are some of the favorites of enthusiasts for their understated aggression and brutal speed. But for most enthusiasts, while the idea of a Ruf-modified car is great, the reality of affording one is much more difficult. First, there just aren’t many true Ruf examples out there, and those that are well built original examples are quite expensive. There are plenty of pretenders to make up the difference, but if you don’t need all of the motivation of the Ruf cars you can get a substantial discount if you just accept some choice modifications to set your standard 930 enough apart to make you feel special without breaking the bank:

Pearlesant White Metallic is a color more often associated with Audi, but some Porsches got the color in the mid 1980s and it never looks misplaced. While most tuning examples of the 930 focus on power, this car features a unique interior that actually works in my mind; custom stitched seats in beautiful brown leather, wood accents, and some period MOMO details really set this car apart. Outside, the Speedline-made Ruf wheels are some of the best ever designed – they’re drop-dead gorgeous and fit the design so perfectly they could almost be OEM wheels. Miles aren’t particularly low and no mention of maintenance is made, so a careful PPI is in order – but the price isn’t outrageous and overall this example seems really well presented. If 330 horsepower is enough for you, this car really seems like a great potential weekend driver.

It needs a chrome chain link steering wheel.

Most Euro 3.3’s came from factory with 300hp. The 330hp cars had different exhaust systems. This one appreas to be standard RW. To each his own but the interior is not to my taste, probably why they aren’t asking $80K. Replace it with one out of a wrecked Carerra and this would be a nice ride.

Actually I like the interior, even though it is very days of … herpes?

Thanks for the correction, Vic. I’m with Brad, I think the interior works in it’s own way. Those seats just about mirror new Audi patterns.

I’m trying to like this interior, but its not happening yet. Can’t deny the fact that a bunch of money was spent on it.

I like that the dash is not black. Too many black dashes out there in my opinion. I don’t think the arm rest should be wood – I think leather would be more comfortable. Also, the wood on the door seems a bit of a contrast. Definitely unique.
