Ultimate German Car For Sale – Steve McQueen’s Porsche

March 17, 2011 by Aaron

So much has been written about this car that I could not possibly do it justice, but I will try.  Last I heard this car was in the car of McQueen’s son.  Now it is slated to go to auction later this year.

The details:

197o Porsche 911s, loved like a car that was owned by an icon.  This is the same car that was featured on the movie Le Mans.

Steve McQueen’s Old Porsche for Sale:

This car may very well set the upper end of the market for Porsche’s, heck, for cars in general.  I am guessing a final bid in excess of $500k, and it would be worth every freaking penny.  Buyers, buyers with more money than sense will line up to buy this car in the hopes that the smallest fraction of cool will rub off on them.

If you have enough dough, I think that is money well spent.  Steve McQueen is an icon, what he has meant to motor sports and gear heads all over the world cannot be quantified.  I sincerely hope this car falls into the right hands, someone who will not stuff the car away in some garage to never be seen again.  This is a special car that needs to be shared for all.

It will be pretty interesting to see the final sale price. I haven’t done my homework on this car, but hasn’t it changed color from black to grey. Why would such an iconic movie car get a color change?

    In any case, movie here:

Thanks for the great response Sofaman. The car is painted #6801 Slate Gray/Grey and was a special order enamel.

Many his cars were painted in this hue. What I do not know is if he had it repainted after delivery or if this car left the factory in that color.

I find this all very interesting as I always thought the car was green.

500k? I was considering buying Mel Blanc’s E36 M3 Sedan years ago (the voice of Bugs Bunny, Foghorn Leghorn, Yosemite Sam….).
It was an automatic though. If only I’d known what celeb owned cars were worth.
