Wagon Week: 2012 BMW 328i Touring

It has taken a few years, but it’s finally happened. The E90 series BMWs have finally grown on me. While the BMW styling direction has been questionable since the E46, like an ugly baby, it takes a lot of getting used to before it starts getting attractive. The 328i is the only 3 series touring offering these days, and fittingly so. With the 3.0 liter inline 6 putting out 230 bhp and 200 lb/ft of torque the 3500lb wagon can get out of its own way. That’s not to say there isn’t room for improvement. Aside from an M version, my biggest wish for these cars would be a 335i version with the much more powerful turbo version of the inline 6.

Wish list aside, this black over white leather 328i for sale in Sacramento, California is certainly a wagon that sits out from the crowd.

This 2012 BMW 328i sports wagon is a former BMW Factory Executive Demo and only has 12K miles! Original MSRP on this 328i was $47,470. Hurry in for great savings! Call 866-455-0536 to schedule a test drive

While this car may have stickered at $47,000 as new, it’s still a 12,000 mile used car and should be priced accordingly. At $41,995, this car is priced as if it’s a loaded x-Drive, navigation car with the M Sport package and all of the other bells and whistles. As an almost base model 2wd car this is worth more in the $36,000 to $37,000 range. That pricing is pretty generous considering that there are better optioned cars for less on the market, and with rumors of the F31’s arrival on US soil, paying top dollar for old techology doesn’t make much sense. The only reason I even offer the $37K max is because the color combination on this car is uncommon and cool.

Nice car, albeit rather sparsely equipped, but pricing is completely out of line with the market. Personally, I thought the early E90 design was a slight improvement over the E46, but the facelifted E90 (2009 and onward) really helped the design a lot. The E91 touring is, of course, that much better. Unfortunately, as Brian mentioned, US buyers are limited to the 328iT. And even with a 6-speed manual, the 328i isn’t fast (been there, done that). It can get out of it’s own way, sure, but getting getting out-accelerated in normal traffic by much less impressive cars gets old quickly.

I ran the VIN. It has sport seats, xenons, and M sport suspension. I’m not sure why it doesn’t show up as ZSP.

It also appears the asking price is now down to $39,990. The M-sport suspension, sport seats, and xenons, are all positives, of course. And there aren’t very many M-sport package 328iT examples available. Still, it’s an odd configuration – M-sport and RWD, but with an automatic? No satnav? No heated seats? The color combo is nice though…

I agree with larry that this is an odd configuration, but some of the strangest optioned cars I’ve seen are executive demos. I still kick myself for hesitating on a white over whte S4 avant program car with 25k miles…missed it by an hour.

Not something you ever see on the lot, white interiors are damn rare on any car.

Excellent point, Brian. I guess the executives can order up their cars however they want them. For all of us in the pre-owned market, we just have to catch the right car at the right time.

You’re also dead on about the rarity of white interiors – especially in the Northeast. I had an opportunity to buy a silver over white A6 4.2 a few years ago. Audi interiors are generally beautiful anyway, but this color was absolutely gorgeous. I passed on it, but only after thinking long and hard about how it would look after a few years of real world use. Maybe if I didn’t have kids (and rarely had passengers at all), and lived in sunny California. But here? No, I didn’t want to be a full-time slave to keeping that gorgeous interior clean.

Exactly, I have tan in my Audi now, and with 2 dogs, it’s a nightmare to keep clean. The interior of my next car will certainly be dark.

I agree that those are strange options. My guess is that the person who ordered it was a car guy but had to order an auto because it is a demo.

I have this color combo on my 11 328Xi…looks OUTRAGEOUS in person…but is an absolute PIA to keep clean..never again!.and I agree on the price…especially for a Touring as they don;t exactly fly off the shelves…
however I just saw the BMW 335i GT and while I did not like it as a fiver’ in 3 series trim it looked nice..
