Each time we feature a Saab here on GCFSB, it’s always a mixed bag of comments. You have the diehard fans who won’t drive anything but. Then there are folks who will rattle off a number of alternative options, complaining about torque steer and the inconvenient fact that you are driving around in an orphan marque. Then you have the usual “this isn’t German” quip. Whatever the case may be, we like the products our Nordic neighbors have to offer.

Saab was about to release a new and very pretty 9-5 SportCombi before the company had the rug pulled out from it in 2011. A handful of pre-production models were built which landed in the hands of a few private owners. However, we’ll always have the first generation 9-5 SportCombi. This one for sale in Florida might not be the snazziest of 9-5s in white over tan leather with the automatic, but rarely do you see them this nice and so lightly used.

This is a CarFax certified 2-Owner Texas vehicle that has ONLY 58,451 well maintained, garage kept miles! The exterior is finished in a beautiful Polar White that is shiny and in great overall condition and complimented with a Sand Beige leather interior that shows virtually NO wear. This 9-5 features a powerful 2.3L high pressure turbocharged inline-4 capable of 185hp and is mated to a seamless 5-speed automatic transmission that truly brings this Sweedish power-plant to life!! This motor is quick on its feet but stillgets a very efficient 19/27MPG and with gas prices over $4/gal, you can’t go wrong here!

The interior of the vehicle is very clean and well appointed with dual 8-way power front seats and dual manual lumbar adjustment. The rear seat passengers are not left out and kept very comfortable with plenty of leg and head room. The driver is treated to a leather trimmed sport steering wheel with controls to the 7-speaker Premium audio system, On-board computer and Tiptronic transmission right at their fingertips! The vehicle is equipped with numerous safety and convenience features that include but are not limited to: Power glass sunroof, Dual Heated front seats, Headlamp Washers, ONSTAR, Factory in-dash player, 60/40 split folding rear seat plus rear Cargo Cover. The vehicle is also equipped with 4 wheel ABS, Front side impact airbags, Elegant 16” alloy wheels and factory alarm system. This Saab has a matching set of (4) Kumho Solus 205/60/16 tires and brand new/never used mini spare in the cargo floor. Overall, the car looks fantastic! It’s been garage kept, CarFax certified with NO accidents and always owned in the sunny south which means NO RUST!! On the exterior there are only a few minor issues: The front bumper has a few scuffs/scrapes on both sides, there is a small dent towards the front of both L & R rear doors and there are aftermarket backup parking sensors on the rear bumper that are not operable. Please keep in mind that these are very close up pictures and the spots may not be as large as they may appear. On the interior: it looks outstanding and still smells like a new car!! All carpets are clean, there are no tears in the leather and it has always been a NON-SMOKER! As a bonus for the new owner, we have also fitted a brand new set of Genuine Saab all-weather floormats to help keep the carpets clean! As far as the electronics, everything is in working order; the A/C is ice cold, the windows, mirrors, sunroof and radio all work as they should and there are no pixels burned out in the information display or radio!!

Mechanically: the car needs nothing!! We just had full scope of maintenance done to the car by our local European specialist that includes:

Replaced the Transmission Computer ($700!!)

Installed a new AC Delco Battery
Installed new NGK Spark Plugs
Replaced (2) Engine Mounts
Replaced (2) Subframe Bushings
Flushed the Transmission Fluid

Balance + Rotate + Alignment
Replaced the A/C Drier + Expansion Valve
Replaced the Cabin Air + Engine Air + Fuel Filters
Installed a new set of Genuine Saab All-weather Mats
Cut and Programmed a Second Master Key
Installed all new wiper blades
Fully Detailed the Interior & Exterior

All in, here was a total of over $2,400 worth of work JUST done to the car!! As you can see, we have done a significant amount of maintenance to this 9-5 allowing the lucky new owner to enjoy the car from day 1! This wagon handles tight and has plenty of power throughout the gears at surface street speeds and on up to 75mph highway speeds!! We have put just over 750 miles on this Saab and can verify that it runs strong, the transmission shifts smooth and it has no warning lights on in the dash! I’m sitting here wishing this 9-5 was an Aero like the SportCombi we featured a few weeks back. However, if you need more of an around town hauler and not so much sport, the Linear with the automatic gearbox would certainly fit the bill. At just over $6,000 and with such low mileage, this Saab proves a compelling option for a lot of other wagons and SUVs out there on the used market. They aren’t making any new 9-5s these days, so the time is ripe to grab one of these in good condition while you can.
